‎KUNSTMUSEUM LUZERN Rinus Van de Velde has made remarkable strides in recent years in the development of his oeuvre. Best known for his large-scale charcoal drawings at the start of his career, he now positions himself as a total artist, using a range of different media and forms of expression such as drawing, sculpture, installations and film. Initially, Van de Velde used found photographs and images as a basis for his drawings, but he later went in search of ways of exercising more control over the images. He achieved this through an extensive process of scene-building, in which he cast himself and those around him in different roles and characters in order to fit them into the narrative discourse of his fictional autobiography. These scenes were built up life-size, with even the tiniest detail being reproduced in wood and cardboard. This book focuses on this part of his artistic activity and has been produced to mark the eponymous solo show in Kunstmuseum Luzern in Switzerland. With a textual contribution from Fanni Fetzer and Koen Sels. Rinus Van de Velde heeft de afgelopen jaren opvallende stappen gezet in de ontwikkeling van zijn oeuvre. Terwijl hij aan het begin van zijn carri re vooral bekendstond om zijn grootschalige houtskooltekeningen profileert hij zich nu als een totaalkunstenaar, door het gebruik van verschillende media zoals tekenen, sculpturen, installaties en film. Aanvankelijk werden gevonden foto's en afbeeldingen als basis voor de tekeningen gebruikt, maar Van de Velde ging op zoek naar een manier om meer grip te krijgen op de beelden. Dat bereikte hij door een uitgebreid proces van decorbouw, waarbij hij zichzelf en personen uit zijn directe omgeving in verschillende rollen en personages castte om in te passen in de verhaallijn van zijn fictieve autobiografie. Die decors werden levensgroot uitgebouwd, waarbij zelfs het kleinste detail werd nagemaakt in hout en karton. Dit boek focust op dat deel van zijn artistieke praktijk en verschijnt naar aanleiding van de gelijknamige soloshow in Kunstmuseum Luzern in Zwitserland. ‎The Antwerp Polyglot Bible (1568?1573) has long been recognized as one of the most ambitious typographical enterprises of the sixteenth century. Upon completion, it was the most elaborate Bible ever printed, a library of biblical erudition with editions of the ancient Hebrew, Aramaic, Syriac, Greek, and Latin versions together with new scholarly instruments necessary to study and compare them.
