Summary The volume explores the long-lasting phenomenon of basso continuo in the Italian peninsula, from its origins ? i.e. from the regole per suonare sopra il basso which collects and develops the contrappunto alla mente's legacy ? up to the late partimento pedagogy. In addition to a bibliographic update, the volume presents case studies providing the reader with new information on performative contexts and performance practice between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, and shedding new lights on sacred and secular genres and repertoires cultivated in churches, theatres, academies, noble chambers and domestic environments. Particular attention is given to the relationship between counterpoint, improvisation and instrumentation, to the analysis of primary sources in relation to book formats and the type of notation chosen to convey the accompaniment. Furthermore, a few chapters focus on peculiar issues of accompaniment pedagogy according to unpublished or neglected sources. Vilanova Artigas, Brazilian Architects Serie "Arquitectos Brasileiros. Artigas attended the Polytechnic School of the University of S o Paulo and after his graduation in 1937, he worked with Russian-Brazilian architect Gregori Warchavchik on the remodeling of Pra a da Rep blica. From 1941 through 1947 he served as professor of aesthetics, architecture and planning, and was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1946. Louveira Residential Complex Along with Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Artigas's membership in the Brazilian Communist Party resulted in his removal from his teaching position in 1969 Both were reinstated in the 1980s. Artigas' work is common viewed in three phases. The first phrase, from 1937 through about 1945, shows an obvious influence from Frank Lloyd Wright in residential design; from 1945 through the mid-1950s there's a transitional phase adopting an International Style grammar (curtain walls, pilotis) for larger projects; and from the 1960s and 1970s his personal, dramatic style linked to Brutalism for large-scale public buildings. Artigas was one of the main figures of the Paulista School of the 1950s, characterized by expressed reinforced concrete structure.

For Guy Van den Bulcke ( Antwerp 1931), the importance of painting is linked to the meaning of our existence, but also to our insignificance in relation to nature and the cosmos. Fascinated by oil paint and canvas, he has been investigating the creation of images for decades with the aim of penetrating deeper into the reality around us. The tradition of painting offers him an adequate response to the complexity that the world faces today. This artist synthesizes styles. He has developed a grammar of painting with some elements of surrealism, pop art and hyperrealism, but this does not imply easy categorization. Moreover, he can be classified as both abstract painters and realists. Parts of his paintings are meticulously rendered, with unique virtuosity and meticulous detail, while other parts are painted in a more abstract manner. The artist provides the images he derives from reality with his own stamp. He shapes his realism through a distinctive choice of image, composition, framing, shape and color. His figurative tableaus are based both on photos he took during his intercontinental travels and on existing photos that he distorts and interprets.

Edward Pas werd in 1904 te Londerzeel (Belgie??) geboren en hij stierf in 1980 te Moerzeke aan de Schelde, waar hij in 1923 onderwijzer was geworden en sinds zijn huwelijk in 1930 was komen wonen. "Meester" Pas is zo'n typische Vlaamse zondagsschilder, een streekgebonden kunstenaar van het Scheldelandschap in de vier seizoenen en vooral van zijn Moerzeke. Dit aan hem gewijde liber amicorum bevat een korte lyrische inleiding van de schrijfgrage Anton van Wilderode, een met foto's gei??llustreerde biografie, en negental summiere "getuigenissen", vier gedichten (twee van Christina Guirlande en twee van Anton van Wilderode).
