Né et mort à Aix-la-Chapelle, le médecin Gerhard Reumont (1765-1828) avait en paryie fait ses études à la Sorbonne ; il se spécialisa à la fois dans les maladies infectieuses (il fut un des pionniers allemands de la vaccine) et le thermalisme : en 1804, pendant la cure effectuée à Aix par Joséphine, ce fut lui qui la suivit médicalement.
