Summary The subject of this publication is the treatise Aduersus Manichaeos, attributed to Evodius of Uzalis. Evodius was a friend and contemporary of Augustine of Hippo. The treatise Aduersus Manichaeos is an important source on the North African Catholic church and its polemics against the Manichaeans. Although the treatise is strongly influenced by the anti-Manichaean writings of Augustine of Hippo, it also offers much original and likely authentic information on the Manichaean movement. Thus far, however, no systematic study had been conducted on this anti-Manichaean treatise attributed to Evodius. As a result, some of its historical circumstances have been shrouded in mystery. The present volume reconstructs the circumstances in which Aduersus Manichaeos was written, and studies the treatise in relation to its fifth-century North African context. The study offers a literary, historical and theological analysis of Aduersus Manichaeos. The publication also complements the study of Aduersus Manichaeos with a new critical edition of the original Latin text, with a facing English translation.

Summary The Manichaean Prayer and Confession Book is the best-preserved Manichaean book found in the Turfan area and the only one which survives in the form of a bound codex. It constitutes a precious treasure-trove of information on its three Iranian languages, on the Manichaean religion itself, and on Manichaean codicology and book-art. The surviving parts of this beautifully decorated miniature paper codex include Middle Persian and Parthian hymns and readings for the Bema festival, the high-point of the Manichaean liturgical calendar, followed by an elaborate confessional formula for the Elect in the Sogdian language. Until now this manuscript has been accessible for scholarship only from its 1937 edition in German by W. B. Henning, titled 'Ein manich isches Bet- und Beichtbuch' (BBB). This new edition provides the first English translation by Nicholas Sims-Williams, the first codicological study by Zsuzsanna Gulacsi and an introduction by John S. Sheldon. It also includes the supplementary Sogdian texts which Henning added to his 'BBB'. It incorporates magnificent colour photos, codicological diagrams, and digital reconstructions never seen before. This beautifully-produced volume appropriately inaugurates the Series Iranica of the Corpus Fontium Manichaeorum.

Summary This volume contains a collection of 54 mostly smaller contributions written since 2015 not printed so far. Based on already published texts and editions or on newly found materials they concern various aspects of the culture of the Uyghurs in the medieval period extending from the 10th up to the 14th centuries. The papers are arranged to four groups: I. Christiana, II. Manichaica, III. Buddhica, IV. Varia. Although the articles treat marginal problems they hopefully contribute to the uncovering of the once flourishing and impressive culture of the ancient Uyghurs in Central Asia whose texts show us a world-historical model of acculturation. In the field of Buddhism, the fragments discussed here are on the one hand additions to already well known works such as the Da?akarmapath?vad?nam?l? or the Vimalak?rtinirde?a commentary, but on the other hand also numerous fragments of original Uyghur texts written for different purposes and on different occasions. Several contributions dealing with words and matters discuss the results of recent editions of ancient Uyghur materials. Old Uyghur texts are written in a "dead" language, but with the constantly growing corpus its importance for all facets of the medieval culture of Central Asia is increasing. The texts convey a vivid picture of a reality which however remains imperfect for us despite the efforts in various and manifold directions.
