‎After Augustine, Pope Leo the Great has been one of the most important witnesses to Manichaeism in the Latin West. This volume first introduces into the world of Leo and his polemics against the Manichaeans in Rome and elsewhere; in this context, the doctrines and practices of Spanish Priscillianism are discussed as well. The central part of the book provides the original Latin texts of Leo, the Constitution of Valentinian III concerning the Manichaeans and a pivotal letter of Turibius of Astorga, all accompanied by an English translation and commentary. The following ten Excursuses deal with central tenets of the Manichaean Christian Gnosis as treated by both Leo and in the original documents of the Manichaeans: Mani the Paraclete; the date of Mani's death; the Bema Festival; the Manichaean fasts, astrology, (apocryphal) literature, dualism, Christology, etc. It not only turns out that Leo provides original information on Manichaeism in the Latin West, but also that Mani's world religion exerted a considerable influence on e.g. the Pope's Christology (and thus on the Catholic Christian dogma). Johannes Hus angefuhrt wurde. Die Postille entstand etwa im Jahr 1408 und enthalt 65 Predigten fur die Sonntagsevangelien des ganzen Jahres und fur einige Christus- und andere -festtage. Sie wurde nicht nur fur ein konkretes Jahr bestimmt, sondern war als ewige Postille gedacht. Mehr als die Entstehungszeit des Werkes ist die Person seines Verfassers umstritten. Zu den Zweifeln uber Hussens Autorschaft der Postille Dicta de tempore zahlen der allgemein kompilative Charakter des Werkes, seine stilistische und in der Ausdrucksweise vorkommende Uneinheitlicheit, die die Anwendung von mehreren Quellen mit sich bringt. Die Postille beinhaltet zwei ganze von Johannes Hus verfasste Texte und mehrere Zitaten, Motiven oder Teilen von Auslegungen aus den unstrittig Hus?schen Predigtsammlungen, zeigt jedoch besonders umfangreiche und bei Hus sonst nicht belegte Einstimmigkeiten mit der Postilla studentium seines Vorgangers Konrad von Waldhauser. Der Autor musste ein gebildeter und belesener Mensch sein, wohl jemand, der zum Umkreis von Johannes Hus gehorte und auch dem Universitatsmilieu nahestand. ‎Summary John Wyclif (d. 1384), famous Oxford philosopher-theologian and controversialist, was posthumously condemned as a heretic at the Council of Constance in 1415. Wyclif's influence was pan-European and had a particular impact on Prague, where Jan Hus, from Charles University, was his avowed disciple and the leader of a dissident reformist movement. Hus, condemned to the stake at Constance, gathered around him a prolific circle of disciples who changed the landscape of late medieval religion and literature in Bohemia, just as Wyclif's own followers had done in England. Both thinkers, and the movements associated with them, played a crucial role in the transformation of later medieval European thought, in particular through a radically enlarged role of textual production in the vernaculars (especially Middle English and Old Czech), as well as in Latin, in the philosophical, theological, and ecclesiological realms. This interdisciplinary volume of essays brings together cutting-edge research from scholars working in these and contiguous fields and asks fundamental questions about the methods that informed Wycliffite and Hussite writings and those by their interlocutors and opponents. ‎Mit der Ausgabe der Opera minora des Arnobius iunior liegen nun alle als gesichert geltenden Schriften des in der ersten Halfte des 5. Jahrhunderts in Rom lebenden afrikanischen Monche vor. Enthalt der erste Band, 1990 erschienen, die Commentarii in Psalmos, so bringt der zweite Band zunachst eine Dialogschrift, den Conflictus Arnobii catholici cum Serapione, in deren Mittelpunkt ein Streitgesprach zwischen Arnobius und einem monophysitisch gesinnten Gesprachspartner uber Fragen der Gnadenlehre, der Christologie und der Trinitatslehre steht. Diese Themen bestimmen auch den allegorischen Psalmenkommentar. Fur den Dogmenhistoriker gehoren diese Schriften zu den wichtigsten Quellen, die zwischen den beiden okumenischen Konzilien des 5. Jahrhunderts erschienen sind. Der Conflictus Arnobii gewinnt uber seine Themen und die scharfsinnigen Argumentationsreihen der Dialogpartner hinaus noch an Interesse und Lebendigkeit durch die zahlreichen Zitate, die zur Untermauerung der Standpunkte vorgebracht werden, von Nestorius uber Cyrillus Alexandrinus (ep. 1 und homilia XVII) bis hin zu Augustin (sermo 369). Eine Sonderstellung nimmt der Liber ad Gregoriam ein. In ihm spricht Arnobius einer unglucklich verheirateten Aristokratin Mut, Trost und Ermahnung in ihrer schwierigen Lebenssituation zu. Und schliesslich enthalt die Sammlung Scholien zu Texten aus Matthaus, Lucas und Johannes, die Expositiunculae in Euangelium, mit Text und kurzer Auslegung von Bibelstellen, die immer wieder Gegenstand der Interpretation waren: Wunder, Aussagen Jesu uber sich, Gleichnisse. Eine ausfuhrliche Einleitung zu den Schriften, den Handschriften und ihrer Uberlieferung, Testimonia sowie eine ausgewahlte Bibliographie und ein Zitaten-Index fur das Gesamtwerk begleiten den Text mit seinem kritischen Apparat.
