‎Summary In the Gospels Jesus is called a 'Nazarene' or 'Nazoraean'. Does this mean he came from Nazareth? Basing himself on Lidzbarski's analysis of the Hebrew/Aramaic origins of the Greek terms Nazar nos and Naz raios Dr Osborne proposes that these epithets indicate that Jesus was a n ?r , a '(Strict) Keeper/Guardian (of the Law)'. This meant he was a follower of the 364-day liturgical calendar known to us from 1 Enoch, Jubilees, and Qumran. An examination of the passages where these terms appear shows that this hypothesis leads to a deeper understanding of the circumstances in which the first Christian communities arose and clarifies greatly the background of Jesus' crucifixion as Y?? ha-N ?r . The book then traces the influence of the n ?r m on the history of Israel from their origin in the 'calendar wars' that tore apart the Jewish nation from 172-163 BCE. These broke out after the lunisolar calendar was introduced into the temple liturgy by Menelaus the high priest, and only came to an end when the 364-day calendar was reintroduced under his successor, Alcimus. In 151 BCE, however, Jonathan Maccabaeus was appointed high priest and reintroduced the lunisolar calendar. The n ?r m were suppressed and forced to emigrate or go underground. They reappear as leaders of Jewish resistance to Roman occupation after Pompey incorporated Judaea into the empire in 63 BCE. Eventually they became the chief instigators of the revolt against Rome that led to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE. Osborne argues that the n ?r m thought to have been included in the Twelfth Benediction of the Amidah at Yavneh around 90 CE are these same '(Strict) Keepers/Guardians (of the Law)'. ‎The Vitas Sanctorum Patrum Emeretensium (BHL 2530, CPL 1069, D az y D az 214) is a fundamental text for the Visigothic Spain of the sixth and seventh centuries (and in particular for M rida, the ancient Emerita Augusta) from the literary, linguistic and historical points of view. In spite of being a hagiographical text, it contains so much information about the period that, as it has been said, there is no equal in any other historical source of the Early Middle Ages not only in Spain, but also in the majority of Western Europe. A new edition of this work was needed, for the critical edition available (J. Garvin, Washington, 1946) has its base in only three manuscripts. It is also clear that any new conclusion concerning the chronology of the work, author, and above all, the basis for the reconstruction of the text had to stem from a critical study and comparison of all manuscripts. In the present edition, by way of study and collation of all known manuscripts (ten in all, complete or fragments) gathered together for this edition, the manuscript history of the text was reconstructed. This permits for the first time the establishment of two existing editions of the same work: the first written about the year 635 and the second, whose interpolations and variants are compiled in a supplementary apparatus, that can be dated between 672-680. The biggest interpolation of this second edition, a version of the Vita Fructuosi (seed of the future Vita Fructuosi), is edited in an appendix. The edition is completed with the usual indices: index nominum et locorum, index auctorum and index uerborurn et rerum notabilium.‎

‎Cet ouvrage est consacre a une presentation tres detaillee de plus de trois cents oeuvres regroupees sous l'appellation "Litterature religieuse judeo-hellenistique", une appellation bien plus judicieuse que l'habituelle: "Apocryphes ou Pseudepigraphes de l'Ancient Testament". Il reprend tous les livres apocryphes rattaches a un personnage ou a un evenement de l'Ancient Testament, classes selon l'ordre de la Bible; y sont joints les auteurs hellenistiques, ainsi qu'une serie d'oeuvres mentionnees habituellement, a l'exclusion toutefois de Philon et de Flavius Josephe. La presentation de chacune des oeuvres commence par un resume. Viennent ensuite les temoignages des auteurs anciens et des catalogues d'oeuvres apocryphes. Sont ensuite analysees toutes les versions anciennes de l'oeuvre: textes hebreu, arameen, grec, latin, syriaque, arabe, ethiopien, copte, armenien, georgien, d'autres encore. Pour chaque version, le lecteur trouvera la liste complete des manuscrits connus, la presentation de toutes les editions (base manuscrite, principes d'edition, etc.), ainsi que les traductions en langues modernes. Sont donnees ensuite les indications sur la date, l'auteur ou le milieu d'origine de l'oeuvre; toutes les hypotheses sont reprises avec les arguments developpes.
