‎Summary The De corpore et sanguine Domini by Paschasius Radbertus was the first monograph ever written solely on the Eucharist. This English translation of the De corpore, along with its companion piece the Letter to Fredugard, make an important contribution to our understanding of the development of Eucharistic theology in the Carolingian era and after. Tot hiertoe bestond er nochtans geen algemene studie in Belgi over de rol van het athe sme in de intellectuele, politieke en culturele geschiedenis van het land. Dit boek is het resultaat van een samenwerking tussen Liberas vzw en de Association Belge des Ath es. Met de steun van de Vlaamse en de Franse Gemeenschap en koepelorganisaties van de vrijzinnige beweging bundelden beide organisaties hun krachten om het athe sme in heel Belgi tijdens de negentiende en twintigste eeuw op een toegankelijke en wetenschappelijke wijze te belichten. Dit volume behandelt de ontkenning van het bestaan van God niet enkel vanuit een filosofisch oogpunt. Er wordt gekeken naar debatten tussen wetenschappers binnen en buiten de muren van de universiteit, en naar het athe sme in vrijzinnige en politieke kringen. Ook athe sme in de kunsten en de letteren krijgt de nodige aandacht. Het athe sme wordt in deze milieus bestudeerd als een sociaal fenomeen dat veel weerstand opriep.
