‎Recensie Biblion: Catalogus bij de tentoonstelling ?Overdaad baat? van grafisch kunstenaar Erik Andriesse (1957-1993) in het Fries Museum te Leeuwarden in 2007. Deze jong gestorven graficus won in 1988 de Prix de Rome en verkeerde in de kringen van Marlene Dumas. Hij experimenteerde met de grenzen van de grafische techniek. Naast etsen maakte hij drukwerk op steen, hout en linoleum en werkte hij met Thaise zijde en Chinees papier. Zijn werk was niet alleen gericht op reproductie, hij maakte ook monoprints. De onderwerpen zijn (verwelkte) bloemen, schedels, geraamtes en andere vanitasthema?s. Het werk oogt bizar en irrationeel en kenmerkt zich door gothic motieven en het besef van tijd. De grafiek wisselt van heel kleurrijk tot inktzwart. In deze uitgave zijn 72 werken van de expositie groot afgebeeld. Daarnaast bevat het een overzichtscatalogus met 65 werken en twee korte teksten. ‎Grondstoffen zoals kobalt of aardolie maken nog maar sinds kort deel uit van het samenspel tussen mensen, samenlevingen en hun natuurlijke rijkdommen. Regen, zon, landbouwgrond, bossen en rivieren speelden het grootste deel van de menselijke geschiedenis een veel belangrijkere rol. Zij bepaalden of een samenleving overschotten dan wel tekorten kon verwachten, hoe toegankelijk gebieden waren en welke afspraken bevolkingsgroepen met elkaar maakten. In tegenstelling tot wat dikwijls gedacht wordt, is het potentieel van hernieuwbare rijkdommen in West-Europa gemiddeld veel hoger dan in Afrika en het Midden-Oosten. Seizoenen zijn er meer voorspelbaar, landbouwgronden rijker, en bevaarbare rivieren verbinden er meer landen. Dit cre erde extra kansen voor economische groei. Maar om de motor van die groei draaiende te houden, waren grondstoffen, arbeid en afzetmarkten van elders nodig. Koloniale grondstoffen ruilen voor Westerse beschaving, het leek een voor de hand liggende strategie. Vanuit deze ongewone invalshoek analyseert Jullie rijkdommen voor onze beschaving de kolonisatie van het mondiale Zuiden in de 19de en 20ste eeuw. Die laat ons toe om ? weliswaar te laat ? beter te begrijpen waarom de koloniale ruil in wezen onzin was, maar ook waarom de postkoloniale periode dikwijls zo moeizaam verloopt. Gelukkig kan deze les ook helpen om de wereldwijde diversiteit aan volkeren in stand te houden, niet als een lappendeken van ongelijkheden maar als een unieke en kleurrijke moza ek. ‎Summary The reinstatement of the Universal Prayer into the Roman liturgy following the Second Vatican Council prompted Paul De Clerck to research its origins and development, taking as his primary model the ancient Roman Orationes sollemnes of Good Friday. The result has been a marvellous gift to liturgical scholars, as his meticulous study of texts from both East and West brings to light direct and indirect relationships and provides significant insight into the way in which Western liturgical families developed their intercessory formularies. The first part of his study is devoted to analysis of allusions to the Oratio fidelium found in the writings of the Fathers and ecclesiastical writers of the first five centuries, with the aim of discovering the prehistory of the 'prayer of the faithful' particularly with regard to its content, form and placement within the liturgy. The second part of the study analyses and compares the oldest preserved texts that shed light on the prayer. Chief among these are the Deprecatio Gelasii in its various iterations, the Orationes sollemnes of Rome (and parallels in other Churches) and the Gallic and Hispanic Orationes paschales, together with relevant texts from Celtic and Gallican sources. The translation of the French text will provide English-speaking scholars across the globe access to this excellent work and encourage similar in-depth research into liturgical sources that will continue to enhance the celebration of the Church's liturgy and the full and conscious participation of the entire faithful.
