‎WIE DE TIJD NEEMT om het prachtige buitengebied van Boxtel, Liempde en Lennisheuvel te verkennen, ziet ze overal staan. Majestueuze hoeven en boerderijen die duidelijk hun glorietijd ver achter zich hebben liggen. Boerderijen die hun oorspronkelijke functie nog steeds vervul- len en boerderijen die, met meer of minder historisch besef, omgebouwd zijn naar woonboerderijen. Historische en moderne boerderij-complexen. Boerderijen met een duidelijk zichtbaar verhaal en boerderijen waar dat veel minder waarneembaar is. Soms moet de historie van het pand zich nog ontwikkelen vanuit het heden. Soms ligt de historie vooral in het boerenerf,het bakhuis of de (Vlaamse) schuur. Vaak zijn het iconen van lang vervlogen tijden, waarin de agrarische sector het leven en het landschap in en rond Boxtel domineerde. Die tijd is geweest en komt niet terug, maar die tijd en het verhaal kunnen wij wel vast- leggen. En daar moeten we niet te lang mee wachten. Boerderijen bepalen al eeuwenlang voor een belangrijk deel ons landschap en ons erfgoed. Zonder boerderijen geen agrarische sector. Over onze eerste boerderijen uit bijvoorbeeld de Romeinse tijd weten we niet meer dan uit archeologische onderzoeken naar voren is gekomen. Over boerderijen uit de Middeleeuwen is al wat meer bekend, omdat hier soms nog gebinten van terug te vinden zijn in boerderijen van nu. Door bouwhistorisch onderzoek worden deze ontwikkelingen steeds duidelijker in beeld gebracht. Dit boek is daarop een waardevolle aanvulling. Goed bouwhout was schaars en duur (hout = goud) in voorgaande eeuwen. Daarom zijn veel gebinten eeuwenlang hergebruikt. Deze werden namelijk gemaakt van het relatief traag groeiende eikenhout. In veel boerderijen komen nog oude gebinten voor, die al veel generaties meegaan. Wellicht hebben deze gebinten soms op meerdere plekken gestaan, voordat ze op hun huidige plaats werden ge nstalleerd. In de gemeente Boxtel is een inhaalslag gemaakt in het onderzoek naar deze gebinten. Een flink aantal boerderijen is op ouderdom onderzocht door middel van dendrochronologisch onderzoek, bouwhistorisch onderzoek (naar telmerken etc.) en kennis van historische constructiemethoden. Ook de bewoners en eigenaars zijn niet vergeten. Hoe meer bekend wordt over de constructie van dergelijke boerderijen, hoe ontzagwekkender het geheel wordt. Een complex geheel van gebinten, verbindingen en poeren vormt het skelet van de boerde- rij. Zelfs de dakvorm draagt vaak bij aan de stabiliteit van de constructie. In deze publicatie is veel te lezen over de technische aspecten van de Brabantse boerderij. Het is goed dit inzicht te hebben, zodat we een boerderij op (cultuurhistorische) waarde kunnen schatten. Bouwhistorisch onderzoek geeft bovendien een waardevolle inkijk in de ontwikkeling van de boerderij van bijvoorbeeld de middeleeuwen tot nu. Wat heeft bijvoorbeeld het verstenen van de boerderijen betekend voor het grondplan en de constructie? In dit boek worden potentieel waardevolle boerderijen in het Boxtelse en Liempdse buitengebied en in de kom nader onderzocht. Het bouwhistorisch onderzoek concentreert zich voornamelijk op het hoofdgebouw, de boerderij zelf. Dat hoofd- gebouw was vanouds een hallehuis dat uit twee delen bestond, het woonhuis en de stal onder n dak. Later ontwikkelde het ge- bouw tot een langgevelboerderij met naast woonhuis en stal ook een schuurgedeelte. Het bouwhistorisch (voor)onderzoek is uitgevoerd door medewerkers van Stichting de Brabantse Boerderij (SdBB). Sommige boerderijen zijn nader onderzocht door middel van dendrochronologisch onderzoek. Behalve de bouwhistorische onderzoeksresultaten worden ook de genealogische achtergronden van de eigenaars en/of bewoners achterhaald. Ook zijn verhalen en gebeurtenissen die in en rond deze boerderij plaatsvonden opgetekend. Dit alles is gebeurd in een nauwe samenwerking met de Stichting K k Liemt en Heemkunde Boxtel. Van iedere boerderij is een gedegen beschrijving gemaakt en het totaal wordt samengebracht in deze publicatie. In de gemeente Boxtel staan op dit moment verschillende programma's in het middelpunt van de belangstelling, die laten zien dat erfgoed, leefbaarheid en economie/ toerisme &recreatie een perfecte combinatie kunnen vormen. Het programma "Kloppend hart van Het Groene Woud" binnen Landschappen van Allure is hiervan een mooi voorbeeld. Binnen dit programma krijgt agrarisch erfgoed dat bijna verloren gegaan is een nieuwe toekomst. Vaak op een andere historische locatie. Dit Boxtelse boerderijenboek kan hier zondermeer een belangrijke nieuwe impuls aan geven. Sowieso geldt dat kennis van hoe en waarom iets gemaakt is er toe leidt datje er anders naar gaat kijken. Zodat je er vervolgens zorgvuldiger en met meer respect mee om gaat. De gemeente Boxtel is een belangrijk document rijker. In dit boerderijenboek ligt een belangrijk deel van ons verleden, ons heden en dus ook onze toekomst. In het besef dat dit onderzoek een deel van onze identiteit vastlegt en extra betekenis geeft aan onze leefomgeving, werkt de gemeente Boxtel graag en uit volle overtuiging mee aan de totstandkoming ervan. Rombout Verhulst (Mechelen 1624 ? Den Haag 1698) was in deze periode de belangrijkste beeldhouwer in de Republiek. Deze rijk ge llustreerde biografie geeft een compleet overzicht van zijn werk. Verhulst genoot zijn opleiding in zijn geboortestad Mechelen. Vervolgens vertrok hij naar Amsterdam, waar hij vooral dankzij zijn werk aan het nieuwe stadhuis (tegenwoordig het Paleis op de Dam) furore begon te maken. Daarna woonde en werkte hij in Leiden en Den Haag. Verhulst was getuige van belangrijke gebeurtenissen in zijn tijd. Hij was lid van het kunstenaarsgilde in Amsterdam toen Rembrandt daar ook rondliep. Hij leverde werk voor het stadhuis van Amsterdam. Hij kreeg opdrachten uit hand van Johan de Witt en was waarschijnlijk aanwezig toen hij werd vermoord. Hij ontwierp praalgraven voor gesneuvelde zeeofficieren als Maarten Tromp en Michiel de Ruyter. Dankzij zijn werk ontmoette hij daarnaast vrijwel iedereen die er enigszins toe deed. Het verhaal van Rombout Verhulst gaat daarom niet alleen over zijn uitmuntende artistieke prestaties, maar vormt zeker ook een venster op de bewogen geschiedenis van deze eeuw.‎

‎Summary In the present day, the term 'idol' is often associated with a personality cult, but it still contains traces of its ancient meaning, namely above all the idea of worship. But this exactly creates a problem for the faith in God attested in the Old Testament. Worship and imagery obviously contradict the Old Testament commandment of worshipping the God of Israel without any image. This study fills a gap in the research in theological and religious studies by systematically exploring the various uses and connotations of the term eid lon. The starting point is an examination of the use of eid lon in Greek literature and in Egyptian sources from the Hellenistic period. The main part of the work is devoted to the various connotations of the term that later find their way into the Septuagint, the Greek Bible. There, as well as in later Jewish-Hellenistic literature, eid lon becomes the terminus technicus for the pictorial representation of deities. Der Begriff Idol verbindet sich in der Gegenwart h ufig mit einem Personenkult, enth lt aber immer noch Spuren seines antiken Wortsinnes, n mlich vor allem die Idee der Verehrung. Doch darin offenbart sich das Problem f r den im Alten Testament bezeugten Gottesglauben. Verehrung und Bildhaftigkeit stehen offenbar im Widerspruch zum alttestamentlichen Gebot der bildlosen Alleinverehrung des Gottes Israels. Diese nun vorliegende Studie f llt eine L cke in der theologischen und religionswissenschaftlichen Forschung, indem sie systematisch die verschiedenen Verwendungen und Konnotationen des Begriffs eid lon erforscht. Ausgangspunkt ist eine Untersuchung des Gebrauchs von eid lon in der griechischen Literatur und in gyptischen Quellen aus hellenistischer Zeit. Der Hauptteil der Arbeit widmet sich den verschiedenen Konnotationen des Begriffs, die sp ter Eingang in die Septuaginta, die griechische Bibel, finden.
