The result speaks for itself: under the name ?Encounters? the reader comes face to face with more than 50 black-and-white portraits, made by the Belgian photographer Jacques Sonck (1949). 'Encounters' refers to sudden and ephemeral meetings, which are distinctive for the work of Jacques Sonck since 1975. His images can be best described as penetrating street or studio portraits of eccentric individuals from all walks of life, made in his home country. It is the unusual, the abnormal that is being captured by Soncks eye without any ridicule. Often it are characters who stand out for their odd behavior, appearance or clothing. Sonck approaches these exceptional personages in a discreet and empathetic manner, allowing them to be portrayed favorably. Sonck himself is inspired by the pre-war anthropological portraits of the German August Sander (1876-1964). Often his work is compared to that of the American Diane Arbus (1923-1971) known all over the world for her portraits of people in society's margin.‎

‎Paul Klee (1879-1940) was een uitzonderlijk schilder, tekenaar, graficus, leraar en theoreticus die een beslissende invloed heeft gehad op de ontwikkeling van de kunst in de vorige eeuw. Vooral in zijn grafisch werk is goed te zien hoe zich van de traditie losmaakte en een van de grote vernieuwers van de moderne kunst werd. Deze portfolio werd voor het eerst in 1945 gepubliceerd door de uitgever & kunsthandelaar Curt Valentin en werd vervolgens, twee jaar later, heruitgegeven door het MoMa (New York). De publicatie bestond uit losse platen met facsimile afdrukken van veertig lithografieen en etsen van Paul Klee en was vergezeld van een brochure met een inleidende tekst van James Thrall Soby, Trustee van het MoMa en voormalig afdelingshoofd van het departement Sculptuur en Beeldhouwkunst. In 1947 maakten reeds dertig van de veertig gepubliceerde prenten deel uit van de grafische collectie van het museum. Voor deze nieuwe heruitgave (de derde) zijn alle veertig werken van Paul Klee opnieuw gefotografeerd en gedigitaliseerd - acht zijn in kleur. ‎Panorama op de wereld - Het landschap van Bosch tot Rubens biedt een overzicht van de ontwikkeling van de landschapskunst in de Zuidelijke Nederlanden van omstreeks 1500 tot 1675. De verbeelding in de Zuid-Nederlandse landschapschilderkunst wordt gekarakteriseerd met begrippen als fantastisch, evocatief en panoramisch. In de zestiende eeuw waren zulke landschappen betekenisdragend: in de voorstellingen werd de symboliek van het landschap gepresenteerd in relatie tot een historisch, in het bijzonder bijbels of mythologisch onderwerp. In deze context wordt het landschap gezien als symbool voor de wereld, analoog aan het leven van de mens.
