‎Summary The Abbaye du Saint Esprit was a successful work of vernacular spiritual advice for women, surviving in sixteen manuscripts and a widely copied Middle English translation. Unlike many other didactic religious texts, it offers few prescriptions for behaviour; rather, it instructs the reader to build a convent of virtues in her conscience and uses the allegorical structure of the building and its inhabitants to arrange brief teachings on prayer and virtuous practice. Between its genesis in the last quarter of the thirteenth century to its final development towards the end of the fifteenth, it was reworked several times for new audiences of women both lay and cloistered, bourgeois and aristocratic. The examination of these successive adaptations offers insights into the growth of lay religious culture, the participation of women in new religious movements, and the use and transformation of twelfth and early thirteenth-century monastic formation literature for new audiences. This book also offers, for the first time, editions of all the French versions of the Abbaye and a modern English translation of the earliest version. En 1898 il entre à l’École des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Il visite l’Italie, l’Afrique et l’Amérique (où il fut appelé pour étudier un grand projet d’architecture à Chicago) et obtient le grand prix de Rome d’architecture en 1910. Il meurt à Marsillargue en 1912, âgé de 32 ans, des suites d’une malaria contractée à Paestum. Son éloge funèbre prononcée par V. Laloux est reproduit dans le livre, ainsi que le catalogue de ses principales œuvres.Exemplaire de Gaston CASTEL, ami de jeunesse de F. Janin. Il avait obtenu le 3e prix de Rome la même année que Janin. Sur les gardes on trouve une grande photographie prise à la Villa Médicis en 1910 réunissant tous les pensionnaires, avec les signatures de ces derniers et des annotations marginales faites par Castel en 1966 (ceux qui sont morts, ceux qui restent). Une autre grande photographie (pliée) montre la classe 1910 aux Beaux-Arts ; sur le dernier plat, grande photographie originale de F. Bianchi montrant un groupe d’élèves des Beaux-Arts en 1913.La planche 19 manque mais le volume est enrichi de nombreuses planches et documents divers. Plusieurs planches déreliées. Reliure un peu frottée.‎

‎Summary Like other Jewish works from the late Second Temple period, Psalms of Solomon alludes constantly to passages in Scripture?particularly the Pentateuch, the Prophetic books and Psalms. Gathering all passages where the Psalms of Solomon refer to a specific verse in Scripture, the present monograph ventures to analyze the authors' use of Scripture and to identify the textual tradition underlying the allusions. The conclusion this leads to is that the authors used a Greek version, close to the Septuagint but sporadically revised on the basis of the proto-Masoretic Hebrew text. This conclusion agrees with recent research on revisionary work on the Septuagint, which must have begun in the first century BCE, long before the named recensions of the second century CE (Aquila, Symmachus, Theodotion). The textual analysis casts a new light on the Psalms of Solomon. Although they came into being in Jerusalem in the aftermath of Pompey's conquest of the city in 63 BCE, they were not composed in Hebrew, but in Greek. The identity of the Greek-speaking group that produced the Psalms of Solomon, and their religious views, are discussed in the final chapter of this monograph. TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction 1. But a year has passed and on it goes, the larking, the scouring, the scavenging. One tea towel after another filled with coins, marbles, pipes. Finds have a strange hold over us. There?s a magic to them that shines on a lot longer than the soon fading glimmer of things we intentionally choose. That purposefulness is probably what kills our enthusiasm after a week or so. Because when we make a choice, there?s too much of ourselves in the object already. We don?t deem a consciously picked item deserving of a tea towel display. The more trash we?ve dug through to get to our treasure, the more it becomes. Hence the mud-crusted trouvailles. We?ve had to make our hands dirty and?like any good romance?half the pleasure lies in the hunt. So we go hunting for crap that?s out of place. Crap that becomes a find, simply because it was lost. A diamond is nothing very special in a jewellery store, but it?s everything when found among discarded fish. Yet maybe the real reason for this endless trawlings for trinkets is another story altogether. Not that of a seventeenth-century mariner tossing a coin into the Scheldt to buy a safe passage, but the belief that we're not the ones that find the perfectly rounded rock, it's the pebble that finds us. For all its muteness, it speaks to us.‎
