het is in verband met Panamarenko's werk bijvoorbeeld gangbaar niet over 'sculpturen' te spreken maar over 'tuigen' en 'objecten' . Toch vind ik dat Panamarenko sculpturen maakt. De bevreemdende, dubbelzinnige natuur van zijn werken komt vaak voort uit esthetische eisen die een voor de hand liggende, technische oplossing onmogelijk maken. Het werk moet boeiend zijn op technisch vlak, maar het moet er ook goed uitzien. Panamarenko is in de eerste plaats een kunstenaar: iemand die in de buitenwereld op zoek gaat naar beelden en bezigheden die samenvallen met geheime patronen die sinds zijn jeugd in zijn brein hangen ------- it is common in connection with Panamarenko's work, for example, not to speak of sculptures but of rigs and objects . Yet I think Panamarenko makes sculptures. The alienating, ambiguous nature of his works often stems from aesthetic demands that make an obvious, technical solution impossible. The work must be captivating on a technical level, but it must also look good. Panamarenko is first and foremost an artist: someone who searches the outside world for images and pursuits that coincide with secret patterns that have lingered in his brain since childhood.

Het Rotterdamse architectenbureau van Herman de Roos (1875-1942) en Willem Overeijnder (1875-1941) gold in de eerste helft van de twintigste eeuw als een van de bekendste en grootste van de stad. Na de oprichting van het bureau in 1895 timmerden ze aan de weg met herenhuizen in de modieuze neorenaissancestijl en gezondheidskolonies. Twee grote woningbouwprojecten in Arnhem ? tuindorp De Mussenberg en de Van Verschuerwijk ? betekenden in 1911 landelijk een doorbraak. Die resulteerde in opdrachten voor het Rotterdamse Tuindorp Vreewijk en voor tuindorpen in onder andere Wageningen, Veendam en Assen. Voor de Rotterdamse havensector ontwierp het bureau zowel rijkgedecoreerde kantoorgebouwen als utilitaire fabriekshallen. Het monumentale kantoorgebouw Petrolea in Den Haag werd uitgevoerd in expressieve baksteenarchitectuur met een art-deco-interieur. Daarnaast bouwde het bureau in Rotterdam enkele scholen, het Sportfondsenbad en het iconische ?Kasteel?, het stadion van voetbalclub Sparta. Als bekende Rotterdamse architecten werden ze uitgenodigd voor de prestigieuze prijsvragen voor het stadhuis, de beurs en de Bijenkorf. Herman de Roos en Willem Overeijnder bouwden een aantal nog steeds gezichtsbepalende gebouwen, terwijl hun landelijke betekenis ligt in hun bijdrage aan de volkswoningbouw. Dit boek geeft voor het eerst een uitgebreid overzicht van hun oeuvre en een beknopte schets van hun leven. Han Timmer studeerde in 1988 af aan de Rijksuniversiteit Leiden. Hij deed architectuurhistorisch onderzoek aan het Nederlands Interuniversitair Kunsthistorisch Instituut in Florence. Zijn onderzoek richt zich met name op de negentiende en twintigste eeuw. Hij schreef artikelen over verscheidene architecten en publiceerde eerder een monografie over Henri Evers in de BONAS-reeks.
