Summary Within the contemporary renewal of the exegetical and historical research on Jesus and early Christianity, this book stresses the importance of new epistemological and methodological perspectives in exegesis and History of Christianity (from the point of view of Cultural Anthropology and Comparative Religion). The articles of the first section present a consequent interpretation of Jesus within Jewish culture of the First century. Jesus activity is located within the Jewish movement of John the Baptizer. His words and political attitude is interpreted in the Jewish context of the Land of Israel under Roman administration. His movement is seen as a sub-group within Jewish society. The section dedicated to the first groups of Jesus' disciples in the Land of Israel and in the ancient Mediterranean world mainly focuses on three constellations of questions: (a) the multiplicity and fractionation of Jesus' groups, for example in Jerusalem in the period between 30 an 70 of the First century, (b) the fact that the post-Jesus Movement was sociologically characterized by a multiplicity of sub-groups of Jewish groups and movements; (c) the radical modifications provoked by the abandonment of Jewish contexts when the majority of followers was composed by Gentiles with limited relation with the daily practice of Jewish life and religion. Particular attention is dedicated to the connection of contemporary research with the interpretations of Jesus and early Christianity developed in the modern age. Language : French.

The medieval Hebrew exegesis in its entirety is indisputably a major achievement in the work of the Jewish sages. The exegesis, designed firstly to elucidate the meaning of biblical terms, whose language was not always understood by members of the Jewish communities scattered throughout the Christian and Muslim world, and then to annotate them for academic and practical purposes, played an important role in enhancing understanding of the sacred texts and adapting them to the needs of schools and communities. The author defines the genre of the exegetic commentary and characterises the methods employed: he traces the stages of its development across the different socio-cultural backgrounds of medieval Judaism; he draws up specific critical criteria; he follows the spread of the genre in time and space, weighs up modern editions and shows us the contribution these commentaries make to the history of the Middle Ages. At the end of the book is a bibliography detailing the principal commentaries and tables showing how the genre is chronologically, geographically and thematically divided. The book provides a critical introduction to a category of sources which has been too long neglected by historians.<br>Dans son ensemble, l'exegese hebraique medievale est sans doute une realisation majeure de l'oeuvre des sages juifs.

Language : French, Greek.

Summary Andrew of Saint Victor was one of the most prominent biblical scholars of the twelfth century. He was a regular canon of the Parisian abbey of St Victor, which in the twelfth century had developed into a prestigious center of spiritual learning, closely connected to the nascent university in Paris. Because of his frequent use of Jewish exegetical materials, Andrew's commentaries are a rich source for the history both of biblical hermeneutics and of inter-religious dialogue during the Middle Ages. His Isaiah commentary caused outrage among medieval Christian scholars because it eschewed traditional christological interpretations, and instead offered a reading "secundum Hebraeos." Scholars have seen Andrew of St Victor as standing at the cradle of a scholarly interest in the Biblical text, which influenced scholars such as the fourteenth-century Franciscan Nicholas of Lyra, and, in the long run, reformers such as John Wycliff, Martin Luther, and John Calvin.
