Ouvrage traduit de l'anglais, Sketch of the military power of Russia, paru aussi en 1817, par Malot, orné d'une carte dépliante : Esquisse de la Politique et du Pouvoir Militaire de la Russie en l'Année 1817 ; la carte montre rehaussé la frontière de l'ouest russe : Finlande, Pologne, Moldavie, Caucase Daughestan Géorgie. Sir Wilspon (1777-1840), général anglais, était un des adversaires les plus résolus de Napoléon qu'il considérait comme l'oppresseur de l'Europe. Sa haine contre Napoléon éclate dans son Histoire de l'Expédition anglaise en Égypte (1803), qui fut à l'origine de toutes les calomnies contre Bonaparte. Il fut placé pendant la campagne de 1812 comme conseiller d'Alexandre I au quartier général de l'armée russe, et fut sans aucun doute l'instigateur du programme de dévastation que les Russes réalisèrent avec une si parfaite méthode devant l'armée d'invasion. Au lendemain de la bataille de la Moskowa, il était l'hôte de Rostopchin, qu'il ne quitta que lorsque ce dernier eut mis le feu aux quatre coins de Moscou. Cet ouvrage donna lieu à de violentes polémiques. Ex-libris armorié : Bibliothèque du château des Ormes.
Tableau de la puissance militaire et politique de la Russie en 1817. Traduit de l'Anglais sur la 2e édition ; augmenté de plusieurs pièces importantes qui n'ont paru jusqu'à ce jour que dans les journaux anglais, relatives aux opinions de Buonaparte sur l'état de l'Europe, à la manière dont le cabinet anglais le traite à Sainte-Hélène, à son projet d'expédition aux Indes par la Russie, la Mer Noire et la Perse, etc., etc. Orné d'une carte représentant les accroissemens successifs de la Russie en 1800, 1808 et 1817 ; la distance des frontières russes à plusieurs des capitales européennes et à celle de la Perse, ainsi qu'à la Mer Rouge, etc., etc.
