Biographie de l'artiste en fin d'ouvrage. Née Tomie Nakakubo à Kyoto (1913), elle est arrivée au Brésil en 1936 pour rendre visite à son frère. Elle rencontra un ingénieur nippo-brésilien, Ushio Ohtake, qu'elle épousa et avec qui elle a eu deux fils. Le premier, Ruy, deviendra l'un des architectes les plus connus du Brésil, et plusieurs de ses maisons brutalistes serviront d'écrins aux oeuvres colorées de Tomie. ************************************ São Paulo, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, 2015. Bilingual English and Portuguese, texts by Paulo Miyada et al., translation by Izabel Burbridge. Large 4to of 31 x 22.5 cm for 104 pp. Paperback with Bradel covers. Colored covers with black flaps. Printed on coated paper. All the works exhibited during the exhibition, as well as some works exhibited in the brutalist Tomie Ohtake residence (nestled in Campo Belo, São Paulo) are presented with captions and texts. Biography of the artist at the end of the book. Born Tomie Nakakubo in Kyoto (1913), she arrived in Brazil in 1936 to visit her brother. She met a Japanese-Brazilian engineer, Ushio Ohtake, whom she married and with whom she had two sons. The first, Ruy, would become one of Brazil's best-known architects, and several of his brutalist houses would serve as settings for Tomie's colorful works.‎
