Amsteldami, Ex Typographia Gerardi Tielenburg (1734-1776), & Soc., MDCCLXXIV (1774). 61, [iii] pp. 8vo (12,6 x 20 cm.). Recently bound in half, dark brown, grained morocco. With a few woodcut vignettes in the text, and illustrated with a most charming engraved frontispiece and title-engraving.
Very uncommon, only a few copies in the WorldCat. A curious, satirical, and sometimes serious, piece of hexametric neo-latin poetry. In his "Prooemium" the author i.a. mentions Aldrovandus, Jonston, Linnaeus, Brisson, Buffon. A wonderful "darwinistic poem avant la lettre" seen throught the eyes of a Jesuit priest. This work is also of interest for the history of 18th century Catholic Amsterdam, more specific the priest of the Krijtberg.
