Monograph on the artist known as the Maestro degli Annunci ai pastori e i pittori, often identified as Bartolomeo Passante and, more recently, as Juan Do. Active in the Nepaolitan workshop of Pietro Beato from 1625 to 1650, the Maestro is thought to have produced over 100 works. This study discusses 77 paintings listed by subject (Old and New Testament, philosophers, geographers and astronomers, mythological characters and genre paintings). 13 contested attributions are presented together with a number of works by other painters of 'impasto di colore' and 2 autograph paintings by Bartolomeo Passante.
