" Album with 40 albumen prints, each approx. 20 x 24 cm, most are numbered and titled, with a photographic title page; Georgio Sommer, Largo Vittoria Napoli, with an arrangement of the gold-medals which he was awarded at the International Exhibitions, mounted on boards, oblong in-4°, publisher's half-leather binding (cover stained). The photographs are very bright without any trace of fading. Some have written on the supporting board large notes in a german hand pertaining to the depicted items. Nothwithstanding the soiled cover a very fine album with the photographs in near mint condition. " Naples ( Napoli ) , studio of Giorgio Sommer, s.d. (ca. 1875 -1880), oblong in-folio album, 30,5 x 41.5 cm, bound in contemporary red half morocco, top edge gilt. The album contains 27 albumen prints by Giorgio Sommer and 11 gouaches of the same size. Photo size ; 206 x 260 mm. All mounted on light grey boards, the photographs numbered and with captions in the negative, the gouaches are untitled and represent mural decorations, groteskes , a mosaic floor depicting a dog ( Cavec Anem ) . The picture numbers are ; 1200 , 1201 , 1253 , 1205 , 1262 , 1240 , 1224 , 1237 , 1220 , 1218 , 1258 , 1260 , 1241 , 1243 , 1242 , 1215 , 1252 , 1213 , 1212 , 1227 , 1226 , 1230 , 1234 , 1246 , 1247 , 1250 , 1254 . ( + 11 gouaches). Exceptionally well preserved '' de luxe '' album of Pompei based on pictures published by Sommer. The photographs as well as the gouaches are in mint condition . The finely coloured gouaches completed the illustrations of the Pompei ruins and gave a good impression of the mural decorations in all there coloured abundance. They were an expensive addition to the ''Pompei Album'' before the invention of colour photography.."
