Bordeaux, Imprimerie spéciale du Nouvelliste, 1890, in-4°, 27 x 21,5 cm, 64 pp, with some coloured poster identification specimen labels , sewn, original printed wrapper. First pages with some soiling at upper margin. Text in French. Interesting publication on the rules which governed publicity made by means of large posters. This method of making publicity was subject to a complicated set of rules regarding size, colour, type format etc. The ''Société...'' was a leading company in France for this method of advertising, especially in railway stations. It was founded in 1857. The 1890's were the peak of this publicity method. The company failed in 1909. This publication consists mainly of a set of instructions for the company's agents to acquire customers for poster publicity. The advantages of poster publicity are discussed in comparison e.g. with advertisements in periodicals etc. . This publication gives a rare insight in the coming of age of a new modern publicity medium. It makes its commercial message very clear in an inhibited way.
