Bound in contemporary half leather, marbled boards, smooth spine (title label missing), binding worn, some of the plates with waterstains, otherwise a clean inside. (Reliure demi-cuir d'époque, dos lisse, manque l'étiquette de titre, plats marbrés avec usures, qq. planches avec des tâches d'eau, autrement intérieur propre). Second edition of this famous course book on civil engineering. It went into several editions up till the middle of the 19th century whereby it was constantly expanded. Sganzin was an engineer of Italian descent who contributed to the expansion of the dock constructions in Le Havre, Antwerp and Ostend during Napoleon's reign. He ended his career as professor of the reknown École Polytechnique.
