‎L. & M. Annaeus Seneca ; cum notis Th. Farnabii.Lucius Annaeus Seneca the Younger (4 BCE 65 CE) was a Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman and dramatist who reworked Euripides dramas and the works of the Greek tragic poets Aeschylus and Sophocles to create the present series of tragedies. The tragedies were rediscovered by Italian humanists in the mid-16th century and they became the model for the revival of tragedy on the Renaissance stage. Thomas Farnaby (1575 1647) was an Oxford educated schoolmaster and classical scholar, whose works chiefly consisted of elaborately annotated editions of Latin authors which enjoyed extraordinary popularity in both England and on the Continent (as evidenced by the present Dutch edition) throughout the seventeenth century. Farnaby's first annotated Seneca was published in London in 1613, and proceeded through nine further London editions during the 17th C. and two additional editions in the 18th C. ‎
