‎Summary The diffusion of Christianity along the Silk Road from Iraq and Iran to China in the premodern era has attracted scholarly attention in the West since the discovery of the famous Xian (Nestorian) Monument c. 1623. This initial discovery was dismissed as a Jesuit forgery by Voltaire, Edward Gibbon and many other scholars of the Enlightenment. However, its authenticity has been more than vindicated by the discovery of genuine (Nestorian / Jingjiao) Christian texts in Chinese from Dunhuang and in Syriac, Sogdian and Old Turkish from Turfan (Bulayq) at the beginning of the last century. Besides confirming the existence of a Tang era Chinese Christian church (Jingjiao), additional archaeological and literary evidence has accumulated of a Christian presence in China during the later Song and Yuan periods (Yelikewenjiao). These churches were the subject of a conference of international specialists in Hong Kong in 2015. The current volume of eleven articles has grown out of the papers presented there. The volume contains excerpts from key Manichaean texts found in Egypt and other parts of the Roman Empire as well as from the writings of Church Fathers like Serapion of Thmuis, Titus of Bostra, Epiphanius, Cyril of Jerusalem and, above all, Augustine of Hippo. ‎Better known to western medieval travelers as Zayton, Quanzhou in Fujian was China?s main port and also the terminus of the Maritime Silk Road. The city was home to a cosmopolitan population especially when China was under Mongol rule (ca. 1280-1368 CE). Italian visitors to and inhabitants of the city included Marco Polo, Odoric of Pordenone and Andrew of Perugia. The city had a significant Christian population, both Catholic and Church of the East (Nestorian), and the nearby town of Jinjiang has to this day in its neighbourhood a Manichaean shrine housing a unique statue of Mani as the Buddha of Light. These religious communities left a wealth of art on stone which first came to light in Mid-Twentieth Century but is still very little known and studied outside China. This volume containing over 200 illustrations (many in full colour) is the work of a team of scholars from Australian universities in collaboration with the major museums in Quanzhou and Jinjiang and is the first major work on this unique material in a western language. The book will be of great interest not only to scholars of Manichaeism and of the Church of the East but also to scholars of East-West contacts under the Mongols. Languages: English.‎

‎Photo dédicacée (17,5 x 23 cm) « A Barta, en témoignage des liens que créa le talent que fortifie et fleurit L’amitié », photo conservée dans un encart de luxe aux noms des photographes. On joint une affichette de commémoration représentant le fort où eut lieu la barbarie et le récit du calvaire enduré par l’abbé accompagné par plus de 100 résistants qui trouvèrent la mort. Ce crime accompli, les mercenaires de la Gestapo, voulant effacer les traces de leur massacre et des supplices endurés par leurs victimes dans les geôles allemandes, arrosèrent les corps d’essence, déposèrent des plaques incendiaires et firent sauter la maison de plusieurs charges d’explosifs. ‎

‎Très rare photo dédicacée, photo des photographes Blanc-Demilly (également signée par les photographes), le représentant en uniforme de chasseurs alpins, probablement vers 1940, alors qu’il commandait le 107ème bataillon de chasseurs alpins dans le Queyras. ‎
