‎First annual report of the United States Entomological Commission for the year 1877, relating to the Rocky Mountain locust and the best methods of preventing its injuries and of guarding against its invasions, in pursuance of an appropriation made by Congress for this purpose.‎

‎1878 xiv, 477, 295 p., 5 lithographed plates, 2 folding maps (one large), 111 text figures, publisher's (?) blindstamped cloth with gilt title on the spine.First major contribution to the knowledge of one of the biggest agricultural threats and the methods to destroy it. With chapters on natural enemies (e.g. Ichneumonidae), and mechanical means to destroy the animals (e.g. with the figured Hoos Locust Crusher, the Hansberry Locust-crusher and other nifty equipment). The fine plates show the rocky mountain locust, Caloptenus spretus, and two congeneric species. Some markings on the spine, otherwise a very good clean copy.‎
