Proceedings of the 3rd International Colonial Conference. The first was organised at the Brussels' World Fair in 1897 under instigation of King Leopold II of Belgium who was at that time head of state of the Independant Congo State. It is most plausable that he started this conference to enhance his hold on the Congo state. The second took place at the Paris World Exhibition of 1900. The impact of this third conference in Ghendt 1913 must have been minimal. Barely 10 months after the World Exhibition closed World War I broke out. It is significant that the proceedings were published 9 years (!) after the congress.Rare publication. ( - Belgian - History - Colonialism - Africa ).."
