London: Thomas Baker 1900
First edition. Original burgundy cloth with gilt titles to the spine. Originally from the Guildhall Library, London. Has their bookplate to the inside board and some stamps (reference copy). In 1838 a Royal Commission requested that all Roman Catholic priests surrendered their Parish Registers (Records of Births, Deaths & Marriages) to the Government for cataloguing and safe storage at Somerset House. Despite much reluctance on the part of the Catholic Bishops, this book gives brief outlines of those Missions which did comply. The boards are clean and tidy, without damage, and with a small library stamp to the base of the spine. Internally the book is clean and tidy throughout apart from the library stamps. xxv, 122 pp.
