Il s'agit de notes critiques sur plusieurs interprétations de termes ou d'artefacts grecs données par Aubin-Louis Millin dans son ouvrage Peintures de vases antiques, vulgairement appelés Étrusques (Paris, 1808). L'antiquaire russe Alexeï Olenin (1763-1843) est surtout connu pour avoir été le directeur de la Bibliothèque impériale de 1811 à sa mort ; il est généralement considéré comme le fondateur de la paléographie russe ‎
