‎Deuxième édition de ce ce roman dEŽmile Joseph Détanger (1845 1912) ou Émilie Nolly, de son nom de plume, qui fut notamment lieutenant au 2ème régiment de Tirailleurs Tonkinois et écrivain. En 1915, il est lauréat du Grand Prix de littérature de l'Académie française pour Hiên le Maboul (1909). Élève de lÉcole de Saint-Cyr, Détanger fait une carrière coloniale qui va le conduire en Extrême-Orient, puis au Maroc. Ses aventures lui inspireront dès lors ses romans. Louvrage est dédicacé «A Monsieur Louis Ganderax, en témoignage de reconnaissance émue et daffection respectueuse. E. N.». Ce roman raconte lhistoire dun foyer tonkinois: le vieux Neua, le couple Thi Teu et Hoc accompagnés de leur jeune adolescent adopté Tao. Ces derniers vont entreprendre le rêve de laïeul, à savoir regagner la terre des ancêtres dans le pays de la Haute Région (frontière chinoise), afin de complaire aux génies et cela en sampan. Un sampan est une petite embarcation de lAsie du Sud-Est, en bois et à fond plat, utilisé pour la pêche côtière, le cabotage ou comme habitation flottante permanente sur les eaux intérieures ou abrités. Second edition of this novel by Émile Joseph Détanger (1845 - 1912) or Émilie Nolly, from his pen name, who was notably a lieutenant in the 2nd regiment of Tonkinese Tirailleurs and a writer. In 1915, he won the Grand Prix de littérature de l'Académie française for Hiên le Maboul (1909). A student at the École de Saint-Cyr, Détanger had a colonial career that took him to the Far East and then to Morocco. His adventures will inspire his novels from then on. The book is dedicated "To Mr. Louis Ganderax, as a token of my deepest gratitude and respectful affection. E. N. ". This novel tells the story of a Tonkinese household: old Neua, the couple Thi Teu and Hoc accompanied by their young adopted teenager Tao. The latter will undertake the dream of their grandfather, namely to return to the land of the ancestors in the country of the High Region (Chinese border), in order to please the genies and this by sampan. A sampan is a small boat in Southeast Asia, made of wood and with a flat bottom, used for coastal fishing, coastal navigation or as a permanent floating dwelling on inland or sheltered waters. Nice and well preserved copy.‎
