The honey ants of the garden of the Gods and the occident ants of the American plains. A monograph of the architecture and habits of the honey-bearing ant, Myrmecocystus melliger, with notes upon the anatomy and physiology of the alimentary canal.
1882 together with a natural history of the occident harvesting ants or stone-mound builders of the American plains; 188 p., 13 tinted lithographed plates, contemporary brown cloth with gilt title on the spine (corners worn). Written by Henry Christopher McCook (1837-1911) and first published in the Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences. Old bookplate on the front pastedown, a few leaves loose, and one text leaf repaired. plate edges a bit brittle. Working copy only!
