‎Léopold III : De la controverse à l'histoire‎

Le titre fait référence à la définition que donne de son pays l'Ouganda le père du narrateur : un pays d'abîmes semé de fosses abyssales où on ne peut pas faire un pas sans risquer la chute et la mort. Les historiens se sont trompés : l'Abyssinie n'est pas l'ancienne Ethiopie mais l'Ouganda d'aujourd'hui... En sept chapitres évoquant les sept cercles de l'enfer le narrateur Moegezi (qui veut dire : brillant intelligent) fait la chronique dramatique de l'histoire de sa famille de son village natal en Ouganda de toute l'Afrique et du Tiers Monde sur fond de régime de terreur (prise du pouvoir par Idi Amin Dada chute du tyran en 1979 retour d'Obote état de guérilla permanent). Le narrateur subit d'abord l'abandon puis la tyrannie de sa mère surnommée Cadenas catholique hystérique qui lui donne une douzaine de petits frères et soeurs - les chiards dont il doit s'occuper. Face aux parents les Despotes il modèle ses tactiques sur celles du dictateur Amin sous la protection symbolique duquel il se place. Il connaîtra ensuite la délation les brimades et l'hypocrisie au séminaire puis s'identifiant au besoin collectif de purification après la chute d'Amin il entreprend des études à la faculté de sciences sociales et devient professeur mais parallèlement plusieurs triangles infernaux se dessinent : guérilla destruction de son village relation incestueuse avec une jeune femme qui se révèle être sa soeur début de l'épidémie de Sida. S'étant un peu trop impliqué dans des trafics illégaux Moegezi doit quitter son pays. Une organisation d'aide au Tiers Monde accusée de pornographie enfantine l'envoie aux Pays-Bas où il s'enfonce dans la clandestinité d'un ghetto d'immigrés où règnent prostitution drogue racket. Un faux passeport britannique lui assure une nouvelle virginité. Ce roman tentaculaire cynique tissé d'émotions violentes de colère de souffrance est servi par une prose rugueuse semée de métaphores puissantes inattendues.
