‎L'histoire de la Guerre d'Espagne par par Artur London (1915-1986), qui fut un des volontaires tchèque des Brigades Internationales en Espagne. Il entrera ensuite dans la Résistance française dès août 1940. Arrêté en août 1942, il sera déporté à Mauthausen en 1944. En 1949 il est nommé vice-ministre des Affaires étrangères de Tchécoslovaquie, mais est arrêté en 1951. Il est l'un des quatorze accusés du procès de Prague en 1952, à qui l'on arrache sous la torture des aveux de « conspiration contre l’Etat », qui seront révélés par la suite fabriqués. Artur London échappe à la peine de mort, mais est condamné à la prison à perpétuité. Il est réhabilité en 1956. Il publie "Espagne...", ouvrage consacré à la guerre civile espagnole en 1963 en Tchécoslovaquie. Le livre est aussi pour lui une façon de réhabiliter les anciens des Brigades Internationales emprisonnés ou exécutés lors des procès de Prague, Budapest et Sofia. La même année, London quitte la Tchécoslovaquie et s'installe en France. En 1968, il publie “L'Aveu”, adapté au cinéma par Costa-Gavras sous le même titre en 1970. Sa femme Lise London, née Lise Ricol, est la belle-sœur du dirigeant du PCF Raymond Guyot. — "L'édition originale du livre d'Artur London parut à Prague en 1963 au moment où une première réhabilitation, après sa condamnation lors du procès Slansky, lui permettait de s'exprimer, mais avec précaution, en public (il ne sera pleinement réhabilité qu'au moment du printemps de Prague). C'était sa façon de réhabiliter ses camarades persécutés partout où des partis communistes obéirent aux ordres de Staline et pas seulement dans les démocraties dites, bien à tort, populaires. “Espagne...” est donc l'histoire de la guerre d'Espagne vue et vécue par un de ces vaincus porteurs du virus dangereux de la liberté, qui entend apporter à ses camarades l'hommage qui leur est dû. C'est donc un livre qui dérange encore aujourd'hui bien des idées régnantes."
