Christophe Plantin plaçait sur le frontispice de ses livres une vignette gravée sur bois, représentant une main sortant dun nuage, traçant un cercle avec un compas. Cette marque est toujours accompagnée de sa devise : Labore et Constantia (« Par le travail et la Persévérance »). Texte en latin.

6th edition of this philosophical treatise written by the Dutch humanist Justus Lipsius first published in 1584. The book addresses the theme of maintaining inner peace and personal integrity in political and social turmoil drawing on Stoic philosophy.

Later edition, first published in Leiden in 1589, of Lipsius’ early tract in political theory in which he, amonst other things, argued a government should recognize only one religion, and should punish dissent by fire and sword.
