Text in French. Texte en français. Some copies contain a portrait frontispiece, this has been replaced in our copy by a 4 pp leaflet tipped in in lieu of the portr. The leaflet confirms the donation of a diamond ring , received by the author as a gift from the Russian Czar Alexander, to the count de Montalivet, then director of the ''Ponts et Chaussées''. It is dated 26 Aout 1809. Among the articles is an important study on the third Eddystone lighthouse constructed by John Smeaton consisting of a description illustrated with 5 engraved plates and a separate study on his invention of quick drying cement that was used for the construction.
