Binding: The book is bound in a sumptuous ''romantic'' binding: full green morocco, both covers with large floral gilt ornaments and groteske, all edges gilt, white silky endpapers. Perfect interior (no stains nor spotting); binding very fresh, with minimal shelf wear. A near perfect copy. Very fine example of one of the highlights of Belgian romantic book illustration by the socalled ''peintres-lithographes''. 36 lithos are from Lauters , the remaining by Billoin (Lauters' brother-in-law). The work started in 1836 and was finished in1840; it consisted of 12 issues of 5 plates. Our copy is the second edition (1844) . A chromolithographic title page was added. This must be one of the earliest examples of a chromolithographic title (and heightened with gold !). See at length pp. 126 a.o. of ''J.H.M. Van Der Marck: Romantische Boekillustratie in België).."
