" Namur, éditeur Ane. Tessaro, Place d'Armes, in-folio, 43,5 x 30,5 cm, multi-coloured lithographic title page (lithographer Bouquillon à Bruxelles) + 60 flithographies mounted on thick paper (appliqué sur Chine), each leaf with a serpente (lithographs printed by Vve Degobert, Bruxelles). The lithographs represent paintings from the young Belgian schools and also original views of contemporary lithographers. Some artists: Clays, G. Simoneau, Ruyten, Fourmois, Ducoron, Verstappen, H. Van Assche, L. Verboeckhoven, P. Bossuet, F. De Marneffe, Kuhnen, Dejonghe, Jacob Jacobs, P.F.D De Noter (Malines), Verreyt, Verwée, Francia.... Binding: The book is bound in a sumptuous ''romantic'' binding: full green morocco, both covers with large floral gilt ornaments and groteske, all edges gilt, white silky endpapers. Perfect interior (no stains nor spotting); binding very fresh, with minimal shelf wear. A near perfect copy. Very fine example of one of the highlights of Belgian romantic book illustration by the socalled ''peintres-lithographes''. 36 lithos are from Lauters , the remaining by Billoin (Lauters' brother-in-law). The work started in 1836 and was finished in1840; it consisted of 12 issues of 5 plates. Our copy is the second edition (1844) . A chromolithographic title page was added. This must be one of the earliest examples of a chromolithographic title (and heightened with gold !). See at length pp. 126 a.o. of ''J.H.M. Van Der Marck: Romantische Boekillustratie in België).."
