Porcelain is prized for its vivid whiteness, but it has always posed particular problems for the ceramicist using it. In Contemporary Studio Porcelain, Peter Lane provides a strong history and celebration of the development of porcelain at the turn of the new millennium. He gives particular consideration to the technical achievements, working practices, and aesthetic concerns of ceramicists who work with this most popular medium and its close relative, bone china. The international group of artists featured in this book demonstrates the confidence and versatility found in contemporary porcelain, resulting in a breathtaking look at the exciting and innovative work that is currently being done internationally in this field. Contemporary Studio Porcelain presents a wide diversity of porcelain objects that will both inspire and enthrall. This classic work, now substantially revised, is a must not only for any potter working in porcelain but also for collectors of fine ceramics.

Studies in Medieval and Early Renaissance Art History (HMSAH 53. This book contributes to the ongoing reappraisal of Memling by addressing some of the tantalizing problems that remain unresolved despite much recent study of his work. Beginning with the question of his training, the text follows him on his Wanderjahre from his native Germany to Bruges, where he became a citizen in 1465. It then considers his activities as a master painter in Bruges, concentrating on the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, including the work of such major artists as Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael.

Gloria F. Ross (1923-1998) described her work as the translation of paint into wool. She was deeply committed to reinventing the centuries-old art of tapestry, particularly championing the handmade in contemporary art. This remarkable book, written by textile scholar Ann Lane Hedlund, draws from rare unpublished archives to unravel the evolution of Ross's modern tapestries and to illuminate the significance of her creative partnerships.Gloria F. Ross and Modern Tapestry features the collaborative work of 28 acclaimed modernist painters and sculptors, including Helen Frankenthaler (Ross's sister), Kenneth Noland, and Louise Nevelson, with several dozen traditional-yet-innovative weavers in France, Scotland, and the Southwestern United States. Brief biographies of the artists, letters, notes, sketches, and photographs illustrate the practical and aesthetic challenges that occupied Gloria Ross for over three decades.
