Situated in the historic Mont des Arts district, SQUARE is a shining new landmark in the centre of Brussels. Its taken vision, tenacity and years of hard work to transform the massive, run-down Palais des Congres into an inspirational international meeting centre for the 21st century. SQUARE is housed in an elegant, architecturally significant building originally constructed for the 1958 World Expo. Many of the original features, such as expansive murals by Belgian masters Paul Delvaux, Rene Magritte and Louis van Lint, have been carefully restored and renovated, and are now juxtaposed with contemporary design conceived by a team of leading European designers. Theres a confident understatement in all the finishes and furnishings, a commitment to function combined with a strong appreciation of form. From its elevated position, the views from the new meeting centre are magnificent, sweeping over the rooftops of the historic centre, offering inspiration to the mind. This is the story of a total makeover, in 150 spectacular photographs and with literary impressions by Caroline Lamarche, Annelies Verbeke and Christophe Deborsu. Of how an area steeped in the past will be shaping the future, of Brussels and the wider world. Met literaire bijdragen van Annelies Verbeke en Caroline Lamarche

This new artists book by Berlinde De Bruyckere presents for the first time her recent sculptures and drawings concerned with the human figure and the deer Berlinde de Bruyckere is a sculptor from Ghent in Belgium, whose wild and sensual figures are formed using a melange of natural materials such as animal pelts, hair, wood and wax. In her recent works Berlinde De Bruyckere worked with a professional dancer, Romeu, as model, defining his movements and poses and developing her own sculptural choreography. The figures are faceless, malformed and fragmentary. At first their shape seems familiar although their forms resist interpretation, offering a disturbing vision of fragility and suffering. Alongside the human body the deer plays a prominent role in De Bruyckeres new work: the deer is a majestic ambassador of nature, sometimes present as flesh-coloured antlers masterfully rendered in wax. The photographer Mirjam Devriendt shows the fragile and vulnerable sculptures in a unique setting, an abandoned house in the old town of Ghent. The accompanying text by Caroline Lamarche reads like a fairy tale about the life and work of a sculptor and her urge to create. Romeu my deer is the most personal book of De Bruyckere. It recounts the story of intense memories, and describes the process of creation. (Caroline Lamarche).
