Koch dargestellt mit gestorbenen Tuberkulosepatienten. Koch entdeckt 1882 Tuberculosebakterium (Kochescher Bazillus). Einige Jahre früher, 1876 wies er zum ersten Mal im Milzbrandbazillus nach, dass ein lebender Mikroorganismus die spezif. Ursache einer Infektionskrankheit ist. - "For Koch's work he received the Nobel Prize in 1905. In 1877 he was the first to show a specific micro-organism (anthrax bacillus) to be the cause of a definite disease" (Garrison & Morton).‎
