St. Petersburg 1907. Kautsky's article was an answer to three questions posed by Plekhanov to leading European socialists. Plekhanov asked first about the general character of the Russian revolution: is it bourgeois or social-democratic? Secondly about the attitude of the Social Democrats towards bourgeois democracy. Thirdly about the support by the Social Democratic Party of the opposition parties in the elections to the Duma. Kautsky's answer appeared in Neue Zeit Nos. 9 10-25 Jahrg. bd. I. In two notebooks of the theoretical organ of the German Social Democracy the Neue Zeit Kautsky published an article on The Driving Forces and Prospects of the Russian Revolution. Karl Johann Kautsky (1854-1938) was a German economist historian publicist and social democratic politician. Theorist of Marxism editor of the IV volume of Marx's Capital. Emile Vandervelde (1866-1938) - Belgian statesman Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium. In 1917 after the February Revolution he came to Russia to campaign for continued participation in the First World War. He was the Belgian representative at the Paris Peace Conference and signed the Treaty of Versailles. In 1922 he was present at the trial of the right SRs in Moscow as a defender.
