Rare set of the first economic journal founded in France. It was published from 1751 to 1772, this present set comprises the last seven volumes, from 1766 to 1772. Initially the journal focused on ""œconomie,"" which related to agricultural management and practical sciences. Over time, however, it gradually shifted towards discussions on science of commerce, particularly under the influence of the circle around Vincent de Gournay. This group promoted ideas like free trade and criticized monopolies and regulations. The journal was initially thought to be a private initiative but was actually influenced and to some extend patronized by the French government, specifically tied to the Bureau of Commerce.
