One of Belgium?s most acclaimed contemporary artists, Fred Eerdekens examines the numerous ways visual images relate to language. Using a range of materials such as copper and nickel, his work manipulates light and shadow to produce text. Though fleeting, the words and phrases sculpted by Eerdekens in his signature medium call attention to the vagueness and ambiguity inherent in language. He creates the text that becomes the basis for his work by choosing words that shift in meaning and contradict themselves. Eerdekens?s installations occupy both physical space in their sculptural form and immaterial space as projected light on a wall. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, the Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art (Museion) of Bolzano, Italy, and the Caldic Collection in Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum.
