‎"L'Allemagne a été davantage affectée par la Grande Crise que la France et l'Angleterre. Entre 1929 et le creux de la dépression (1932), la production industrielle recula de 39 %, contre 25 % seulement en France entre 1929 et 1935. Au plus fort de la crise, l'Allemagne compta jusqu'à 30 % de chômeurs. Mais le redressement fut rapide : en 1936, les chômeurs ne représentaient plus que 8 % de la population active et, en 1938, ce pourcentage était devenu insignifiant. Ces faits posent deux questions : pourquoi la crise de l'économie allemande fut-elle si profonde ? Et dans quelle mesure les autorités nazies pouvaient-elles se targuer du redressement enregistré après 1932 ? (...) Les thèses exprimées dans cet ouvrage auraient peut-être gagné un poids supplémentaire si elles s'étaient appuyées sur un effort plus poussé d'investigations et de traitements statistiques. Mais l'exposé détaillé des événements, le rappel des points de vue exprimés par les contemporains et une bonne utilisation des études consacrées à cette période fournissent de solides arguments. On appréciera aussi l'étendue du champ examiné : en se plaçant dans une perspective de longue durée et une optique comparative, l'ouvrage a mis l'accent sur des phénomènes qu'une analyse plus sophistiquée, mais plus limitée dans le temps et l'espace, n'aurait peut-être pas su déceler." Especially bound by James Brockman in vellum covered boards, with gilt leather title label on smooth spine, in a blue cloth covered slipcase. Book designer is Wolfgang Lederer. Loosely inserted is a holograph letter by Christopher Logue to a friend Peter How. The poet excuses himself for the delay in forwarding a copy of this book. He further makes some ironical remarks which betray the unease he feels about the very high ''bourgeois ''connotation of this publication. The book is dedicated ( in print ) to Sir Paul Getty. Beautiful book and a flawless copy with an interesting ex-dono letter by the author.‎
