Summary Robert Wakefield and his brother Thomas were pioneers in the study and teaching of Hebrew in early modern England. Robert was trained at Cambridge, acquired expertise in Aramaic, Hebrew, and Arabic, and obtained professorial status in Louvain, Cambridge, and Oxford. Thomas took possession of his brother's books and manuscripts upon his death; he enjoyed long tenure as praelector in Hebrew at Cambridge and was a compulsive annotator of his books. This volume draws together the political, linguistic, and bibliographical materials that shaped the careers of these two scholars, revising previous claims and producing a compelling analysis of Hebrew learning in sixteenth-century England. Jacobi, Carol James Finch ed.: The Rossettis. Exhibition: London, Tate Britain, 2023. 240 pages, fully illustrated in colour. Hardback. 28x23.5cms. An exploration of the lives and works of Christina, Elizabeth and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Twelve essays consider the artists' individual and combined contributions to a progressive artistic and social counterculture. Several essays analyse singular works such as Dante's 'Found' and 'Beloved'; others discuss his artistic partnership with Elizabeth whose oeuvre is given its own chapter and is considered within Pre-Raphaelite sisterhood in another. More essays are devoted to Christina's literary contributions, interior design and the influence of Jane Morris. Poems by Christina and Dante are dispersed throughout.

a portrait of J. Clerk Maxwell in frontispiece, few text-figures reprint 1991 of the 1952's edition (1st edition was 1876) "Contents, Chapitres : Preface (1877), Note, Biographical note, Contents, xii, Text, 163 pages and Dover catalogue - Introduction - On motion - On force - On the properties of the centre of mass of a material system - On work and energy - Recapitulation - The pendulum and gravity - Universal gravitation - On the equations of motion of a connected system - Appendix : The relativity of the forces of nature - The principle of least action - James Clerk Maxwell (13 juin 1831 à Édimbourg en Écosse - 5 novembre 1879 à Cambridge en Angleterre) est un physicien et mathématicien écossais. - In 1865 Maxwell resigned the chair at King's College, London, and returned to Glenlair with Katherine. In his paper 'On governors' (1868) he mathematically described the behaviour of governors, devices that control the speed of steam engines, thereby establishing the theoretical basis of control engineering. In his paper ""On reciprocal figures, frames and diagrams of forces"" (1870) he discussed the rigidity of various designs of lattice. He wrote the textbook Theory of Heat (1871) and the treatise Matter and Motion (1876). Maxwell was also the first to make explicit use of dimensional analysis, in 1871.
