( 1860 - 1861 ), in-folio, 50 x 34,5 cm, (4)nn pp (title, plate index) + 21 full page photogravures, printed in sepia on ''chine appliqué'' ( tipped on china paper), protected by a serpente paper. Bound in publisher's half leather, smooth spine with title in gold. With large gilt title on the front cover (within a double blind fillet). all edges gilt. Binding with some traces of use, Interior with some minor foxing spots. Overall a fine copy. Fine copy of an early example of a book illustrated with photogravures. This particular process (Glymmatography) was invented by Baudran and used from 1855 onwards in e.g. ''Gazette des Beaux-Arts''. This book here, published without a date, dates most probably from 1861. It is mentionned in ''Les Beaux-Arts Revue Nouvelle - Tome troisième - 2nd semester 1861'' on page 343.
