Still acceptable set of the internal rules of the Jesuit-Order. These guidelines, for internal use only, are rare and printed in small editions only. This Prague edition divised a classification of rules which subsequently became the generally accepted structure. (De Backer-Sommervogel Tome V col. 82-83)."

"13. En France, no printer, 1762, 3 vols in-8°, 163 x 98 mm, [I] (4) nn pp + xi pp + 377 pp . [II] (4)nn pp + 365 pp. [III] (4)nn pp + 343 pp. (complete). Bound in three uniform contemporary full leather bindings; mottled calf, raised gilt spine with title label, edges painted red, marbled endpapers. Very fine set with minimal wear at bindings. With in all volumes the engraved armorial ex-libris pasted on the inside of the front cover '' Alexandre Jean Mignot, abbé de Scelleries....''. Translation into French of the rules of the Jesuit order as they were published in Prague e.g. in 1757 in 2 in-folio volumes. The translator declares in the introduction that is was his aim to give an impartial and literal translation. The reader can judge this because the original Latin text is each time reproduced on the opposite page. The first owner of this book Alexandre Jean Mignot (1725-1791) was the abbot of the Seillières abbey at Romilly-sur -Seine. He is famous as being the nephew of Voltaire and for arranging the burial of Voltaire (who died in Paris) on the abbey grounds."

Antverpiae ( Antwerpen ), Michiel Cnobbaert, sub signo S. Petri, 1689, in-8°, 17,3 x 10,5 cm, engraved portrait frontispiece + title with engraved vignet + 279 pp + (18) nn pp (index, last pp bl.) + 54 full page copper engravings outside the text. Bound in 19th c. full black morocco, both covers with a triple gilt fillet. Gilt lace work on the inside cover margins. All edges gilt and marbled. French master binding signed by Fechoz-Letouzey. Very fine copy notwithstanding a very small scratch on the front cover. This is a good example of French 19th c. bibliophile taste whereby books from the 17th c. were rebound in a refined 19th full morocco binding with tastfull gilding. In the process the book was washed. The treatment here was reserved for a fine illustrated copy of the main work of the founder of the Jesuit order. This nicely illustrated edition first appeared in Antwerp in 1676 and was reprinted in 1689. (See De Backer-Sommervogel vol. V pp 61- who by error credits this edition with 85 (!) illustrations)..
