(1850 ?), in-8°, xlii pp + 316 pp + 40 steel-engraved plates, bound in red blindtooled cloth, with richly gilt decorated smooth spine (with a view of a train, Saint-Paul's and a ship), all edges gilt, bound by E. Smith of 5 Ivy lane , Paternoster Row (his small printed label on the last paste down). Binding nicely preserved. Interior of the book with foxing spots throughout, though mainly on the plates. The book has neither index nor table of contents. It was issued as such. It is a stereotyped edition and commonly called ''The Shepherd's London''. There exists a sequel, ''London in the nineteenth century'', which is not present here (see Bernard Adams ; Shepherd and Elmes's Metropolitan Improvements 1827-30- Text Series 154 as catalogued in London Illustrated 1604-1851)."
