‎Privatdruck, anonym erschienen. - Das Schweizerische Literaturarchiv listet im Hermann Hesse-Archiv und im Rainer Maria Rilke-Archiv eine gleichnamige Mappe (46 cm) von Georg Reinhart mit 13 Reproduktionen nach Kohlezeichnungen, erschienen 1919 in 50 Exemplaren. - Rainer Maria Rilke veröffentlichte im "Graphischen Kabinett" 4, 1924 "Anmerkungen eines Reisenden zu den '13 Einfällen'", die auch im «Briefwechsel mit den Brüdern Reinhart 1919-1926» im Insel Verlag 1988 gedruckt wurden. - Der Winterthurer Unternehmer, Kunstsammler und Mäzen Georg Reinhart (1877-1955) förderte Kulturschaffende wie Hermann Haller, Ludwig Kirchner, Frans Masereel, Karl Geiser, Giovanni Mardersteig und Hermann Hesse. Von 1907 bis 1939 war er Vizepräsident des Kunstvereins Winterthur und von 1933 bis 1950 Präsident des Galerievereins. Er regte die Ausstellung Ernst Ludwig Kirchners von 1924 im Kunstmuseum Winterthur an. Künstlerisch bildete sich autodidaktisch fort und nahm auch Unterricht bei E. G. Rüegg und Würtenberger. Neben Werken befreundeter Künstler sammelte er französische Malerei und ostastiatische Kunst. Teile von Georg Reinharts Sammlung befinden sich in den Kunstmuseen von Winterthur und Basel sowie im Museum Rietberg in Zürich. ‎Bel exemplaire bien complet des 2 parties. Il s'agit de l'un des toutes premières impressions réalisés dans la ville de Siegen (Westphalie) par l'imprimeur protestant né à Zurich, Christoph Corvin (1552-1620), avec sa belle marque d'imprimeur aux corbeaux avitaillant Elie. Corvin avait suivi l'Académie calviniste de Herborn jusqu'à Siegen en 1595. Une ancienne annotation manuscrite en anglais, rédigée en garde et attribuable au rédacteur de l'ex-libris, William R. Williams, relève dans l'avant-dernière page de la préface l'évocation des "Victims of St Barthelemeos Massacres throughout France 22 years before estimated at 60.000". A propos de la page 16 de la seconde partie, il commente : "pointing gunpowder not modern inventions". Concernant la page 61 : "Idle walking condemned in Sparta". Beautiful copy, complete with both parts. This is one of the very first prints made in the city of Siegen (Westphalia) by the Zurich-born printer Christoph Corvin (1552-1620), with his beautiful printer's mark : Elie fed by ravens. Corvin had arrived there in Siegen with the Calvinist Academy of Herborn in 1595. An old handwritten annotation in English, written on front endpaper and attributable to the author of the ex-libris, William R. Williams, notes in the penultimate page from the preface the evocation of "Victims of St Barthelemeos Massacres throughout France 22 years before estimated at 60,000". ‎Rare first edition of these two work by Calixtus, the first work being a fine representation of his general theological viewpoints" creating unity and understanding among Christians, Protestants as well as Catholics. In this work he is trying to harmonizing the four Gospels and reconcile apparent discrepancies among the Gospel and providing explanations for unclear passages found within them. Georg Calixtus (Or Georg Calixt or Georg Callisen, 1586-1656), was a German Lutheran theologian and philosopher. He is best known for his attempts to reconcile Protestant denominations and for his efforts to bridge the gap between Protestantism and Catholicism during the post-Reformation era. His approach, known as syncretism, sought to find agreement among various Christian denominations on essential theological points while allowing for diversity in non-essential matters. However, Calixtus's views were controversial within the Lutheran community of his time. He faced opposition from more conservative theologians who viewed his efforts as compromising essential doctrines. Despite this, at times fierce, opposition Calixtus's ideas influenced later theological movements and contributed to the development of ecumenical dialogue between different Christian traditions. ‎

C'est l'une des figures les plus controversées de l'histoire de la médecine et de la chimie. - Pour ses travaux en chimie, Stahl est le savant le plus encensé et le plus exécré du xviiie siècle. De son temps, il est adulé dans toute l'Europe. L'article « Chimie » de l'Encyclopédie de Diderot, le présente à l'égal de Newton, réalisant l'équivalent chimique de Newton en physique6. Mais bientôt Lavoisier fonde la chimie moderne par la réfutation d'un concept de Stahl, le phlogiston ou phlogistique. Cette révolution fondatrice renverse la situation de Stahl qui se retrouve dans le plus mauvais rôle : celui de l'obscurantiste ayant bloqué le progrès de la chimie, pis encore, c'est aussi un personnage sinistre et querelleur, s'exprimant dans un mauvais latin truffé de germanismes. Cette image se forge tout au long du xixe siècle, alors même que la chimie s'affirme comme une science moderne et optimiste, répondant au progrès social. Elle est reprise par la plupart des histoires de la chimie du xxe siècle. La question du phlogistique devient un modèle emblématique de révolution scientifique, celle que T. Kuhn appelle « changement de paradigme »8. D'autre part, quelques historiens de la chimie tentent de redorer le blason de Stahl, estimant que si la théorie du phlogistique était bien fausse, elle ne fut pas stérile. - La théorie du phlogistique est une théorie chimique qui expliquait la combustion en postulant l'existence d'un « élément-flamme », fluide nommé (phlogistón) (du grec phlóx, flamme), présent au sein des corps combustibles. Elle a été conçue par J.J. Becher à la fin du xviie siècle, et développée par Georg Ernst Stahl. Cette théorie a été réfutée par la découverte du rôle de l'oxygène de l'air dans le processus de combustion, mis en évidence par Lavoisier au xviiie siècle, et a été supplantée par la théorie du calorique. (source : Wikipedia) - Herman Boerhaave, de son vrai nom Boerhaaven (31 décembre 1668, Voorhout près de Leyde 23 septembre 1738, Leyde) est un botaniste, médecin et chimiste néerlandais. Il est partisan d'une séparation de la chimie et de la médecine, il s'oppose à la iatrochimie en refusant de réduire l'activité du corps à la dualité acides-alcalis, aux fermentations et aux distillations. Il déclare à ce propos qu'il faut corriger les erreurs de la chimie, par la chimie elle-même. Dans son Traité des menstrues (c'est-à-dire des dissolvants), il développe le concept d'affinité chimique, en parlant d'amitié, sans y donner un caractère affectif. Il s'agit d'un phénomène physique, d'une force mécanique et universelle de type Newtonien qui s'exerce entre les particules de différents corps. Toutefois il n'a pas dressé de tables d'affinité, comme Étienne Geoffroy qui fut le premier à en faire sous le nom de Table de rapports. Dans son traité de chimie, il ne mentionne pas la théorie du phlogistique, et il se dit plus proche d'Hoffmann que de Stahl." bel exemplaire, mais présence de quelques annotations en bleu sur le chapitre sur la théorie du phlogisdtique, c'est léger et ne concerne qu'une petite poignée de pages (5-6 pages, très léger et genant très peu la lecture), le reste du texte est sinon frais et propre, exemplaire partiellement non coupé, cela reste un bon exemplaire, couverture impeccable hormis une infime trace de pliure au coin inférieur droit du plat supérieur‎

‎The very rare first edition of Ohm's first work, which actually laid the foundation for his career and gave him the opportunity of working as a scientist. The work was printed eight years before his first scientific paper, (""Vorläufige Anzeige des Gesetzes, nach welchem Metalle de Contakt-elektrizität leiten"", 1825, which contained for the first time the original research that was to immortalize his name). The German physicist Georg Simon Ohm (1789 -1854), who later became famous for having established the fundamental relationship between voltage, current, and resistance, and thereby founding electrical circuit analysis (all based on what has ever since Ohm been known as ""Ohm's Law""), was solidly educated in mathematics, physics, chemistry and philosophy by his very skilled autodidact father. From 1800 to 1805 Ohm attended the Erlangen Gymnasium, after which he attended the University of Erlangen for three years, until his father withdrew him and placed him in exile in Switzerland, because he was so dissatisfied with him wasting his scientific abilities"" -Georg Ohm was primarily interested in dancing, billiards and ice skating. He then became a mathematics teacher in Gottstadt bei Nydau, and in 1809 he went to Neuchâtel for two years as a private teacher, although he would have preferred to follow Karl Christian von Langensdorf to Heidelberg to restart his mathematical studies. Langendorf, however, advised Ohm to study mathematics on his own and to read the works of Euler, Laplace and Lacroix, which he did. In 1811 Ohm returned to the University of Erlangen, where he received his PhD. He now taught as a Privatdozent for three semesters, but he could not advance and made almost no money, so he was forced to seek employment from the Bavarian government. The best position that he was offered was that of a teacher of mathematics and physics at a poor quality, low-prestige Realschule in Bamberg, where he stayed with great dissatisfaction for three years, until the school got closed down in March 1816. He was now assigned to teach a section of mathematics at another overcrowded and ill reputed school in Bamberg. During these years, Georg Ohm felt very unhappy with his position and realized that he had to do something to improve his merits in order to get out of Bamberg and have hopes to find a better post. And thus, he undertook the writing of his first work, the elementary geometry text, which was to prove his true abilities. Ohm sent the manuscript to King Wilhelm III of Prussia, and in 1817 he was offered the position of Oberlehrer of mathematics and physics at the recently reformed Jesuit Gymnasium at Cologne. This was a very good school, which was based on the ideals of proper scientific education and enthusiasm for learning and teaching, and it was this position that stimulated Ohm to seriously concern himself with physics which he had never done before. The physics lab was very well equipped , and Ohm could now devote himself to experimenting on physics.""Ohm's fist work was an elementary geometry text, ""Grundlinien..."" which embodied his ideals on the role of mathematics in education. The student, he believed, should learn mathematics as if it were the free product of his own mind, not as a finished product imposed from without. Ideally, by fostering the conviction that the highest life is that devoted to pure knowledge, education should create a self-respect capable of withstanding all vicissitudes in one's external circumstances. One detects in these sentiments the reflection not only of his own early education but also of the years of isolation in Switzerland and of personal and intellectual deprivation of Bamberg. The resulting inwardness of Ohm's character and the highly intellectualized nature of his ideals of personal worth were an essential aspect of the man who would bring the abstractness of mathematics into the hiterto physical and chemical domain of galvanic electricity."" ‎Georg Abraham Mercklin , latinisé Georgius Abrahamus Mercklinus , (né le 19 novembre 1644 à Weißenburg en Bavière , mort le 19 avril 1702 à Nuremberg ) était un médecin de Nuremberg. Fait ses études à Wissembourg, puis à Nuremberg et Wittenberg, obtient son doctorat en 1670 à Altdorf et entre au collège des médecins de Nuremberg. En 1683, succède à son père dans la charge de médecin de l'ordre teutonique de la maison de Nuremberg. Fut également médecin des princes palatins Louis-Antoine et François-Louis.
