After other studies, the Italian Jesuit Raffaele Garrucci published the first illustrated survey in 1858, with an expanded second edition in 1864. ‎Corredata della collezione di tutti i monumenti di pittura e scultura, incisi in rame su cinquecento tavole ed illustrati. Giachetti, Prato, 1872-1880. In folio (mm. 460x333), 6 volumi, mz. pelle coeva (alc. volumi con manc. al dorso; picc. spacchi alle cerniere esterne; lievi abarasioni), fregi e tit. oro al dorso, conservati in astucci rilegati in cartonato mod., pp. compl. 1412. L'opera è introdotta da un vol. di testo, pp. 604, in cui il Padre Garrucci espone le basi per l'interpretazione dell'arte cristiana e ne riporta gli Annali della pittura e scultura. In questa straordinaria opera archeologica viene presentata la collezione completa dei monumenti iconografici del mondo cristiano nei primi 8 secoli: sono affreschi, pitture su vetro, miniature di codici, mosaici, sarcofagi, marmi e stucchi, gemme ed avori cesellati, ori e argenti, bronzi, vetri, piombi, terre cotte, monete, ecc., appartenenti all'arte cimiteriale e non, rappresentati in 503 tavv. f.t. inc. in rame. Ogni tavola è ampiamente descritta. Esemplare con fioriture o arross. intercalate nel t., ma complessivamente in buono stato.‎
