Bound in contemporary green half leather, raised spine with gilt title. Boards covered with marbled paper. Printed in 130 numbered copies (n° 120/130). Binding with some traces of use but still fine/good. Title page with a brown spot of appr. 4 cm² under the word ''Metz'', first 5 leaves with some minor marginal foxing spots. further a near stainless copy, with stainless lithographs. Rare and impressive illustrated oeuvre catalogue of the painter Auguste Rolland ( Metz 1797 - Rémilly 1859 ). He was a landscape painter who studied first law in Heidelberg, Strassbourg and Paris. In 1834 at a Metz exhibition he turned to painting . He had Charles Laurent Maréchal as a tutor. This oeuvre catalogue lists and describes 764 paintings and drawings, but also 8 architectural works ( schools and townhalls) because Rolland had also a training as architect. The plates B & C represent architectural works by Rolland, plate B is a lithographic reproduction of a 1856 photograph of the private house of the painter. Plates 1->40 are lithographic interpretations of paintings by Rolland. They are made by some of the leading lithographic artists of the period and printed on heavy paper by Lemercier, himself the foremost French lithography printer.
