The illustration of the 1511 German edition served as a model for the 16th century edition but without the 74 extra woodcuts (1512). Of beautiful craftsmanship, this is a wonderful display of the art of war at the beginning of the 16th century. The soldiers are represented in action, with their armors and machines of war.The lively scenes, full of picturesque details, are for the most part due to Hans Knapp himself, whereas some are signed with the monograms PVM et MS (Melchior Scharzenberg). The most surprising engravings are dedicated to contemporary diving equipment: diving suits, underwater fishing, underwater combat, waterproof boots, ancestor of the bathyscaph. On two very intriguing figures, we can see the use of flint and the first version of an inflatable mattress.‎

‎Combinaison de plongée, bathyscaph et machines de guerre inventives.Une très rare série de gravures sur bois d'une très belle facture dû à Hans Knapp et M. Scharzenberg.D'une belle facture, c'est une magnifique démonstration de l'art de la guerre au début du XVIe siècle. Les soldats sont représentés en action, avec leurs armures et leurs machines de guerre.Les scènes vivantes, pleines de détails pittoresques, sont pour la plupart dues à Hans Knapp lui-même, tandis que certaines sont signées des monogrammes PVM et MS (Melchior Scharzenberg).Les gravures les plus surprenantes sont consacrées au matériel de plongée contemporain : combinaisons de plongée, pêche sous-marine, combat sous-marin, bottes imperméables, ancêtre du bathyscaph.
