Een unieke kijk op dans en choreografie door fotograaf Erwin Olaf en choreograaf Hans van Manen Ballet inspireert mij. De mens heeft de capaciteit om zich uit te drukken in vele kunstvormen, maar bij dans en zeker bij klassiek modern ballet verbaas ik me altijd weer over die ongelooflijk hoge vorm van expressie. Het is zo precies en zo ontzettend ambachtelijk, dat bewonder ik enorm. Fotograaf en filmmaker Erwin Olaf Dat de fotograaf kijkt via de camera is anders dan het direct aankijken van de figuur. Dat is voyeuristisch. De camera kan iets wat je als toeschouwer niet kan: een close-up maken. Choreograaf Hans van Manen Dit jaar viert de grootmeester van de Nederlandse dans, choreograaf Hans van Manen, zijn negentigste verjaardag. Dat wordt internationaal gevierd door vooraanstaande balletgezelschappen met het omvangrijke Hans van Manen-festival van 8 tot 29 juni 2022, de exclusieve publicatie Dance in Close-Up en de gelijknamige expo in Galerie Ron Mandos in Amsterdam van 19 juni tot 17 juli 2022. Vanaf de jaren zeventig tot de jaren negentig was Hans van Manen niet alleen een van ?s werelds vooraanstaandste choreografen maar eveneens een internationaal gevierde fotograaf. Het was in die tijd dat de toen piepjonge fotograaf Erwin Olaf de vermaarde kunstenaar ontmoette, die hem onmiddellijk bij de hand nam en hem met de wereld van de beeldende kunst en studiofotografie liet kennismaken. In dit boek wordt hun veertigjarige vriendschap gevierd met een fotoserie waarin Van Manen momenten uit zijn choreografieën regisseert, uiterst precies vastgelegd door Erwin Olaf. Where does fashion stop and art begin? Erwin Wurm and Walter Van Beirendonck explore the border zone. Austrian artist Erwin Wurm (*1954) works with videos, drawings, sculptures, photos, and installations that take on anything but traditional forms. In his One Minute Sculptures, which marked Wurm's international breakthrough, he used simple instructional drawings to invite viewers to themselves become sculptures. Wurm also throws his own body into the battle by sculpting it with many layers of clothing or subjecting it to an extreme diet. He extended the idea of a voluminous body to lifeless objects such as cars and houses. Wurm's perplexing and often extremely ironic works have made an immense contribution to his extremely popular. The artist's book presents Wurm's latest work: furniture, drawings, outdoor sculptures, and-for the first time-clothing, developed in collaboration with the innovative Belgian fashion designer Walter Van Beirendonck. Marcel is het veelgeprezen debuut van Erwin Mortier over een Vlaamse plattelandsjongen die opgroeit in een familie vol geheimzinnige verhalen en duistere gewoontes. Langzaam ontdekt hij het geheim en de schande die sinds de oorlog aan de familie kleeft. In het middelpunt van het verhaal staat een klein jongetje, dat door zijn grootouders wordt opgevoed, ergens op het Vlaamse platteland. Tegelijk draait het verhaal om Marcel, die enkele decennia eerder aan het Duitse Oostfront is gesneuveld en wiens portret deel uitmaakt van de verzameling portretten die grootmoeder, 'als de averechtse baker van haar ras', van alle overlevende familieleden aanlegt. In een suggestieve stijl geeft Erwin Mortier een scherp, ironisch en soms hilarisch beeld van de familie en de kennissenkring, die moeten leven met een verleden dat ze beurtelings willen verbloemen en onthullen. De jongen kijkt die wereld in, begrijpt haar niet, en wordt gefascineerd door de ogen van Marcel op dat portret in het zonlicht, 'dat hem al half heeft weggevaagd'. Intussen hopen de grootouders dat hun kleinkind ooit getuigenis af zal leggen van de pijnlijke familiegeschiedenis, en dat de jongen een nieuw, schoon begin zal vormen.

"Ces photos, tirées du film suédois d'E. Leiser et accompagnées de brefs commentaires, veulent « opposer la réalité nazie à la phraséologie du livre d'Hitler » et faire revivre devant nos yeux l'horreur de l'époque hitlérienne." (Revue française de science politique, 1963) — "Pendant l'été de 1924, interné à la forteresse de Landsberg, après un putsch manqué à Munich, Adolf Hitler commença d'écrire un livre qu'il voulut d'abord intituler : Quatre ans et demi de combat contre le mensonge, la stupidité et la lâcheté. Sur les conseils de Max Amman, directeur des publications nazies, il adopta un titre plus lapidaire : Mon Combat (Mein Kampf). Ce livre contenait la doctrine nationale socialiste, la pensée politique et philosophique d'Hitler, le plan de la conquête du pouvoir en Allemagne et de l'ordre nouveau qui devait être établi en Europe. Mais ni les Allemands – qui, à partir de 1933 en firent leur bible – ni les démocraties européennes ne comprirent ce terrible avertissement. En 1959, un journaliste, Erwin Leiser, rassembla des documents filmés et photographiques, tirés des archives nazies, pour réaliser un film de montage, intitulé, lui aussi, Mein Kampf. Né à Berlin en 1923, émigré plus fard en Suède et naturalisé suédois, Erwin Leiser voulait "que les images et les documents parlent directement à une génération pour qui ce temps sanglant fait déjà partie de l'histoire" et montrer à la jeunesse "que l'avilissement de l'homme par l'homme est le plus grand crime qui soit". Le film Mein Kampf a donc toute la rigueur d'un documentaire dans lequel aucun moment de vérité n'a été interprété ou reconstitué (le commentaire sobre et précis de la version française est de Léon Zitrone). Il part de la guerre de rues à Berlin, en 1945, pour suivre, ensuite, par un retour en arrière, le déroulement chronologique des événements (causes et conséquences) qui ont conduit Hitler à la dictature de l'Allemagne et à la guerre. C'est le contenu du livre vérifié par des faits irréfutables : les "actualités" allemandes. Dans les quelque 200.000 mètres de pellicule qu'il avait à sa disposition, Erwin Leiser a fait une sélection intelligente et didactique. Mais il a conservé intégralement un film tourné dans le ghetto de Varsovie par les services de propagande antisémite du gauleiter de la Pologne, Hans Frank. Ce long morceau d'horreur, loin de détruire l'équilibre du montage, en renforce le propos historique.
